Bumper Bolt Question

Hey guys,

I知 looking for a bumper bolt with a larger diameter head than the typical size. You see I知 covering the slots in the lower valence panel of my 71 Challenger. But that leaves one bolt hole on each side in the bottom of the bumper. Because the hole was meant for a bracket it is made on the oval side just slightly larger than a normal bumper bolt. That痴 why I知 looking for a slightly larger one. I actually need 2 bolts. The bumper is brand new, had it been a used one that I would re-chrome I would fill it in but I don稚 want to mess with a new bumper. So if anyone has any suggestion on where I can get a slightly larger bolt I would appreciate it or even a different suggestion I知 open. Thanks

Dave

I can't really visualize your exact problem, but if I needed a certain size bolt diameter with a larger head than was normally made on said diameter, I would begin with a bolt that had the proper size head that I wanted, then turn down the threaded part in a lathe and re-thread the shank to the diameter and thread count that I needed to screw into whatever I wanted to screw into.......
P.S. I would begin with a Grade 5 bolt rather than, for instance, a Grade 8 bolt. It would be much easier to machine and thread.

I think your misunderstanding what I mean. I want the rounded chrome portion that you see on the outside of the bumper to be slightly larger. It's that simple. I would put it through the hole and bolt it down like a typical bumper bolt.

Make a larger diameter flat washer to go under the head of the bolt and chrome it.

I found some that were 1-1/8" in diameter. They will work perfectly. Thanks
