Cam selection

I know....many times this has been asked...but anyway
Putting together a 406 small block, 4.155 x 3.75, and want it in the 600 horse range. Using AFR heads, 11:1, top of the line rotating, 850 on a Strip Dominator or similar. Car is 2500lbs, 3800 stall, 4.30 gear, 30" tire. How bout a cam (mech roller) recomendation. Comp software says .254/.260 .625 lift or so...
Anybody w real world experiance w specs

Drag car?

If so, why so low on the convertor stall?

Call Chris Straub.
He has a perfect cam for 3.75 stroke small block Chevy with AFR heads.
His semi custom grind may not get you 600hp, but it doesn't cost much more to get a custom grind from him. Plus the phone call is free!

600HP SBC using AFR heads. That's alot of motor that needs the right, or darn close, cam. Big mechanical roller is a custom grind that is in order - Straub, Bullet, Jones. My personal recommendation is Andy Jensen for a cam for something like this. No matter what, you need to provide a ton more info than you have for a 600HP SB.

Questions like yours is why I believe turbos make this easy - more boost = more go . Cams are much less important.

Straub Technologies and Scott Foxwell are in Piney Flats TN

I've had several customers use him to good effect. I used to have a LOT of Harold Brookshire customers (UltraDyne, General Kinetics and the designer of many cam 'families' for Comp and Lunati). Many of his designs went to Bullet as well.

Recently I've been getting more and more Jones cam users; and I had a great personal experience with him as well. Any of these guys are capable. Jones does have a discount if you sign up for the Speed-Talk "HotPass", I don't know if Straub does.
