Can you bore a 400 SBC to 60 over?

What C.I. would a 400 bored to 40 over be?Can you bore it to 60 over?Is it a big problem if the threads holding the balancer are messed up in the nose of a crankshaft?Can you go oversize and rethread?

Apparently 400's already have cooling problems, but it your cooling system is up to par I think it will be fine.

Yes a 400 can be bored .060" oversize. It is not done on race blocks because of thin cylinder walls. It will work fine on a mild street motor. The threads in the crank can have a heli-coil repair and be good as new.

the 400s do have a tendency to run hot when just idling. if i sit at a red light or burger joint to long it climbs to about 215 degrees before i shut it off or the light goes green. i know a friend who bored one .60 over and fried it at the local oval track from too much heat. i wouldn't go anymore than .30, just my opinion

boring .060

why bore it that far, why not just bore it enough to clean it up that way if there are any problems in the future it can be bored again
