Car pulling

Have a 32 Chevy with a dropped straight axle is been really. Manual drum brakes manual steering. old school. Had to jump on the brakes really hard last night. Car is now pulling to the right when you get off the throttle. Not brake related. Anybody have any idea? Thanks everybody

Sounds to me like something bent in the axle assembly. Measure from front axle center to rear on both sides. It should be the same on each side. If it is short on one side look real close at axle,Radius rods all attaching hardware. It also could be the caster on the side that pulls. It may have twisted the axle which wipes out the caster adjustments during the sudden stop.

Be extra vigilant looking over the front end as a front end failure makes you the passenger on a one way ride to Oh Crap!

I'm not familiar with this front end but typically a bent component will pull all the time because you've lost the alignment. A loose, flexing , or close to failing component will do it under different or certain circumstances more like a what the hell was that bump steer issue.

I've had the whole safety first beat into me through training so I have to say it also. When it comes to brakes, steering , and suspension the ending can be violent so check it out thoroughly. Depending on your rear set up something going on back there can also have effects.

Well, was ok before you slammed on the brakes. Now pulling, how do you know it is not brake related?

Think I would pull the drum, go into the side it is pulling towards look around.

Look at the hairpins, bushings, rod ends, axle and frame mount points, pull on them see if loose.

Unless you hit something really hard, I doubt very much you bent anything.

Agree the rear as another place to look around.

Rear, could be... Years ago we welded a set of "Southside" bars (rear control arm relocators) on the son's '85 MCSS to aid with traction. One weld broke and that car was a handful on decel. On the throttle or maintaining speed you'd never know it.

Standing on one can be the end for marginal rubber brake hoses and make a slow to release system that can be missed if checking hours later.

Crack a bleeder on the non-pulling side. If it spits fluid, you likely have a blocked brake hose. The side it pulls to is the working side. Pull both drums and look for a brake shoe hung up on the backing plate, a broken pull back or hold down spring.

Had a 76 cj that pulled to one side during breaking after getting a bit of air coming over a hill. I jumped the thing all the time without much concern.
It started pulling to the passenger side under hard breaking. After replacing the calipers and hoses I noticed the front shackles bushing was hogged out allowing the shackle to twist when the front end compressed.

Take a picture of your front suspension and steering.
Hoses are cheap. But you could have easily bent something.
