carburetor question

I have a 1972 chevrolet 3/4 ton pickup truck with a 350 engine.
On it is a Rochester Quadrajet 4mv carburetor.
It is missing the vacuum break diaphragm plunger, and is rigged with a wire to keep the choke open so that the truck is able to start. Winter is on its way and the cold weather makes it more difficult for me to get the engine running.
I'm looking at getting a carburetor rebuild kit.
But I am wondering if I should buy a new upgraded carburetor? Does that exist? I would like to boost my vehicles performance. Any advise or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

You can get a vacum break from the parts store just take the carb number with you. Rebuild kit is 20 bucks more. Dont make a much better carb than a qjet and its not holding the motor back. Look into headers or at least dual exhausts and recurve the dist. Itll take a cam and other mods to make it run much better than that will.
