Compressor Oil Change...

Hey guys, do it. DO IT NOW. Four or five years ago, I moved my NorthStar 7.5 HP 80 gal vertical out of the shop and into the back garage. Out of sight, out of mind, right? I was out there for something a few days ago and just happened to glance at the level indicator which looked to be solid with sludge. Got to thinking how long it's been since the last oil change, prolly 4 or 5 years! I pulled the drain plug and nothing came out, unscrewed the sight glass and yup, there was oil (or something) in there. After 2 days of draining what looked like battleship gray paint, then mopping out the sump with 1/2 roll of paper towels on a piece of wire (1/4 towel at a time), I refilled it with 2 1/2 QTs of 30 weight "flush" oil to run for a week before refilling with synthetic. Watching it run, the rings are so trashed the overpressure vent on the fill plug was whistling. Went to Northern's web and, yup, no parts or replacement compressor listed. Waiting on an e-mail response as to availability.

Anyone know where I can get a new pump that'll fit the NorthStar mounts?

Russ

I have changed pumps and the fabrication involved in mounting a new pump is minimal. I would just order a pump of the size needed and mount it up myself and not worry much on the mounts as all of them I have done just mounted to a flat plate.

Here's a diagram of my pump base. Who's a good mfg'er to get one from that will actually stock parts a few years down the road? This is a 2 stage, 7.5 HP, 29.4 CFM pump...

Found a rebuilt NorthStar pump on E-Bay for $500-ish and a couple of nice (new & rebuildable) pumps by "Schultz" and "Saylor Beall" in the $700 range, anyone have experience with either of these?

Eaton, found them and it looks like a pretty nice pump, thanks! Decisions, decisions. I can buy a bolt-in replacement that's not rebuildable for $500, or a different (but rebuildable) pump for about the same with shipping that will need some installation fab work...
