Yessir, just like boxing a control arm. I am thinking of a heavy plate behind that bottom bend. Theres room for some sticking out just not exactly where the plate does. Couldn't hurt to go up higher, too. One thing I saw in my travels was bar stock welded at a 90 to the very edge of the brace. As a gusset. Just one side but all the way up. That looked pretty sturdy too. Mike begrudgingly OKed reinforcement design #1. I haven't showed him this and I suspect he will be rekieved. I just go where it leads me.

Running boards for a 30-1 should be in tomorrow. Who needs some 28-9s?

I heard the Cat is getting rear air done. Two A/C boxes.

Shooting myself in the foot again here. A little.

Got the headlight bar back up there, evened out fender heights-

Needed another revision.

Had to cut and re-tack the stretch patch too, but its all good now. Even without running boards, the fender front corner is stationary and that carriage bolt at the lip is height matched side to side with frame level.

By the way, that fender brace "could" be welded at the Y. Turns out the assembly tips forward and comes off with it bolted there. The right side may vary.

Well, I'll be. (Thats a complete sentence in Kansas.) Running board!

Took quite a few tools to "just" bolt it up.

Footloose is building a square Bronco topper with new outer pieces. For the orange painted pretty one but using the one on the roto for roughference.

Square Camino-

Same as you would, I saw this trailered heap roll by the door and had to walk around it and go hmm...

This is so ya know I did the right thing and cleaned up those new boards. Gave the bolted up one a bomb fog too. Oh and I also recieved the center piece below the grille but haven't gone there yet.

Spent the afternoon getting the right front fender brace started on mofifications. Using the old cutout scraps for the stretch patch instead of tubing over here. Think I am down to making the top end of the reinforcement. Mike sez let it stay bolt-together at least for now.

The '66 Impala doesn't look too bad, other than the obligatory GM window channel rust...
The tail light sockets are just begging for Caprice lights.
Seems you don't need to wonder if there is something in your future after the A...plenty of projects laying around there, waiting...

You are right about the Chevy. And about the future. At this rate I might be able to do up to ten more builds in my life.

After welding and grinding, this side slipped right back into place-

See that bright headlight bar bolt? I had not referenced that when initially tacking ends on the reinforcement and tilting the brace. Thats what looked so bad wrong in the last pic with the reinf bolted up. There wasn't 3 inches between that and the bolt near it like the other side. Happy now though. To be past it.

So hey, yeah.. on to other, cooler stuff. I'm ready! (mostly for the long weekend, AH!)

Sweet chariot here, poised to create crop circles and scorch planet-

Wheels do look kinda dinky.

I put tools away and swept. Fender heights within a half inch side to side, measured at the lip bolt, after removing the headlight bar-

I know some of you like your pic angles wide. Mmm, floor! Wider IS better.

Did not recheck fender height after getting all the bolts in this running board, was called away to assist on another job for a few. In theory, the board install (needs plenty work lining up holes so it will fit, like other side) may take away that less than half inch height difference on fender lips. Not counting chickens until running board and fender brackets are all in place, though. Looks like it will all go fine, far as I can see.

Pleased also to report that this piece looks to fit.

The fun thing I didn't get to today was making some sort of new mock up hood side. I pressured boss for answers about hood seal material and the conversation led to first needing to see if any kind of hood sides will be offered. I may just save that for next week because tomorrow looks to be haywire personally, and its our "Friday" for this week. I want my ideas clear before I mock something up.

Engine sticks out clear back to the dipstick, but engine will probably be moved back so...

Good a place as any to mention... I saw the Catalina's shaved cowl (with wipers though) which was patched by a friend of the owner. Boys, it is murdered. Cold, dead. We need another one. I don't believe that car will make SEMA. Might be a year to finally skip that, I dunno but theres that.

I like the 66 Caprice tail lights and interior,,but not the roof line,
I think the impala sport roof looks much better.

I mocked up the idea I have been carrying around for a year. For a hood side with removable rainy day cover insert. Yes I traced it off a Mustang quarter.

Remember, the engine may move back 3" or so.
