It ain't hurt. Passenger door fits a mite better.

Before re-screwing, I gave the toe board's tunnel area another shot, putting the top up higher.

What's the sled there for ??

idrivejunk 03-30-2020 09:58 PM

Could be anything. You know as much as I do now.

Hopefully the ample photos and sparse words for the retired and/or trapped at home were enough to earn rights for opinion gathering...

Which makes more sense to you, to do next?

A: Bear claw latch conversion

B: Hidden door hinge installation

C: Hood hinge installation

Note about C: Billet hinges from Eddie Motorsports are on hand and designed for 53-6 trucks. Speedway sells them and suggests that they fit 48-52 as well. For starters, first thing I noticed is completely different mount area, four holes as opposed to three. As done with the 58 Chevy hinges used on a 59 Pontiac, the manufacturer is willing to, if we make them work, take them back for polishing and fresh struts after R&D on our end. In exchange for the new info about additional applications. I think thats nice but don't know yet what I am up against on that.

Door hinges before latch seems more logical. Once the latch is installed with old hinges, that makes the hinge install more exacting to, now, match the latch. Hinges first allows installing latch once to match hinges.

The hood hinges could be first, but will, most likely, consume more time with re-inventing the wheel to work, and they still will later, but hinges and latch move the project further along more quickly... hopefully happy customer with progress...;)

Sound logic there!;) The Merc had a lazy actuator on the driver's door. One of them deals where everything does good until trim panel and handle are on.

I am reapproaching front of trans tunnel now that the way the body sits is beginning to make sense. Those fender braces just connect fender to inner, no frame connection.:( Door gaps via cab corner work can be part of the hinge swap, doesn't make much sense to sort those out with stock hinges IMO, in this case. They seem good anyway with only problem being back of right door.

I am pretty much gonna bend the circle laying here into a tunnel front-

See how soggy the paper towel is around my sandwich?:( Can't find Oscar Meyer anymore, only Hillshire Farms.

:D Both are tasty  but the HF lunch meat makes less sandwich, too.

End meat review. Heres fresh you ain't seen-

I dropped my top irons assembly off at the sand blaster's today. They gave me an estimate of $80 dollars for the 12 pieces?????? We will see if that holds true. I figured 250-300 if I was lucky.

Ah, ha, I missed that the / was dividing the dual purpose application. Woulda been more obvious if they had all that on the same line, you know, for us old farts...;)

John long 03-31-2020 07:34 PM

Hey Matt. I goofed. My post was meant to be in the "what did you work on today" thread. My bad.

Sorry,
John
