PC'ing is the way to go.

I have the HF coater and it's pretty good! Not much to it..

Sandblast.. Degrease. Heat part up at a higher temp (450 or so) to outgas. Spray powder.. Bake at correct temp and time.

I had painted my 350 sbc with etch primer, followed by vht high heat primer followed my SS paint. ran the engine for about 6 hrs and all of the paint started flaking off... thank God i had it on the engine stand and not in the truck or i would have jumped out an 8 story window. the block was sandblasted and degreased before i painted it. now im wire brushing it all off to start over. if anyone can tell me what the hell i did wrong id appreciate it... thanks fellas

Paint peeled?

First if you CAN wire brush off the primer then something is not right. Next I would question the compatibility of the VHT paint and the primer you used. I am hoping the paint peeled between the primer and the top coat, meaning the paints were not compatible. In my case I used the Martin Seinor line of paints from NAPA. The Trio-prime stuck like glue to the engine block and the base coat bonded well to that, then of course the clear did its job also.

I am very sorry to hear your paint job peeled after all that work, and glad to found out before bolting it in place. I still swear by the mixture I used and I guess I will avoid rattle can over auto body primers.

Let me know if I misunderstood your situation.

Paint Peeled?

I forgot one point I think someone mentioned earlier in this thread. High heat paint should not be necessary on the engine block, since we are talking about temperatures on the surface of the block around 250 max.
