Ethyl-Factory Five 1933 Hot Rod

I began this build three years ago. Built the car as a Roadster and drove it for a year then decided to rebuild it as a coupe and finish the body and interior. Car has a small block Chevy running a mild came, TK45 5 speed, hydraulic clutch and Ford 8.8 diff with a 4 ling suspension.

Nice. I like them with the hard top and some five spokes. One we did had power windows too. Its a far cry from your GTO, haven't run across you in years though so its good to see what you're up to. What green is that?

Yep it pales in comparison to the GTO, really more to look at but it was nice putting together a team to do a very nice build. The green is Mini Cooper British Racing Green, I think BMW owns the color. I have an LS standing by to go in it but in all honesty its more of a show car than a go car. I may take the LS I have sitting in the garage floor and put it in something else.

I was ready to bring the car home but it was not perfect for Kory so he did some touch up.

There were days when all the shots were not so glamorous. Lots of lessons learned the hard way. Lots of people buy these car kits and do not follow through with the design because frankly the production parts might be a little off or the manuals are not that easy to understand. I followed the same path. For instance I could not figure out how to set up the latch on the trunk (don't laugh) so I came up with my own solution using Quik Latches. It looked and worked okay but when I go professionals to help me finish the car, the solution designed was much more elegant, structurally sound, and frankly easier on the eye.

Trunk Continued. The kit had a trunk prop rod but I bought a gas shock kit from Kootenai Vally Customs.

The gas shock kit embedded two steel curved rods into the trunk lid. The gas rods were attached to them and the body making the raising and closing of the trunk a smooth operations. The wooden construction was a false floor that went in to stiffen the back of the body so when the trunk was closed the latch would clasp the striker instead of pushing away as the body bent.

The interior came out particularly well. It was done by Leo's Upholstry in McKinney Texas.

As the interior comes together there are some nice touches Roy at Leo's added. These include the cover for the roll bar, the strip around the hard top to cover the seams, the console and a host of others.
