Found a cool engine for my project!

I love inline engines but I don't love the intake and exhaust on the same side. Those that have crossflow heads are typically pretty expensive. Well I found out that Ford Australia made a 250c I-6 with a crossflow head. I found one with EFI but I'm going to yank that. It looks ugly as homemade soap. A guy in Oz is looking for a triple sidedraft weber manifold, new valve cover, and a/c bracket. Hey- you can't be cool sweating your butt off! Car is a '29 Ford Tudor Sedan. I want to chop it up to emulate the extra-cab pickup built by Posies a couple of years ago. My first-ever rod project. I'm so excited!

Unfortunately, it's going to be about 7 months until I can do anything with it. I bought it while home on leave and now I'm headed back to Afghanistan.

Oh yeah!-I also met some folks while on leave who will help me out with the project;a guy who can show me how to use an english wheel and do body work in lead, a guy who is selling me english wheel components at a great price, another guy who rebuilds engines and chopped the top on his '31 Tudor. He said he'd weld up a frame for the e-wheel. Man, car guys are the greatest!

It sounds like you have a cool project, and also some cool friends if they can help with an English wheel and lead. Good luck and thanks for your service to our country. I, and I know many more, really appreciate your sacrifice.

Thanks guys. Yes, I'm in the military. Texas Army National Guard. I did 4 1/2 years active duty and now just over 5 in the Guard.

I'll need to dig up some pics of the engine. It's not even at my house yet.

Hemmie Gremmie- are you really building a hot rod Gremlin???

Hey how ya doin

Im from Australia and have had many cars with the cross flow inline 6, and all I can say is WHY MAN, lol... I currently have an AU XR6 VCT wich is basicly a cross flow motor with an updated head, with varible cam timing, this motor is pretty good with 172kw - 220kw upgrades, these motors are not a moders dream, although they are very economical high way driving, around town it will still guzzle a fair amount of juice.

The old type cross flow motors are a dime a dozen, pretty much just a boat ancor. Whay would you want to waist your time with one. They have cracked head issues (alloy) cam problems once cammed up, bottom end is just weak alltogether, unless you get a good builder and have oodles of cash I would do!!!!.

If I were you I would look into getting a current model BA XR6 Turbo motor, intercooled 240kw standard 500kw easy, with a few major intake changes and computer reprogramed etc, but minimal amount of money 3k will give you around 100kw +. these things are wepons in any car. They have an unbelievable amount of tourque and still give pretty good Highway driving fuel consumption. Around town these things can literly suck you dry in a couple of hours. you can get these motors for around 3-4k AU,
They hammer!!!!!

Your thgoughts.
Casey

Your thoughts.
