Fresh air masks & info

Just joined Hotrodders and I would like to offer some help. I am a certified industrial hygienist (CIH). In lay terms it has been my job for the past 37 years to protect folks from what they do at work, with a special emphasis on chemicals hazards. I would be happy to provide guidance on the chemicals in the paints and how to protect yourself. Yesterday, I finished application of Martin Senior Pro Base clear on a 71 Chevy I am restoring. I used the right gloves, the right suit and the right respirator.

Just a follow up on the chemicals in the paints and the right protective equipment. The way to select the right gloves and suits is by using the chemical permeation guides. Since, this is Hebrew to most folks, I would be glad to help out. I quizzed the folks where I bought by Martin Senior Pro Base and they had absolutely no training on what to use or even what was available. The suits they recommended were particulate suits and provide no protection against the solvents or the isocyanates in the hardeners. The isocyanates and several of the solvents in these coatings will penetrate intact skin without liquid contact. I will be glad to help out.
