Galvanizing door with rust particles

Hi guys,

I am looking for advice regarding galvanizing. I'm trying to save the car body of a project of mine and rather than just painting over the slightly rusty patches, I wanted to ask if galvanizing is an option. I read about it here and have been fascinated with the subject ever since. Apparently "[galvanising] can be performed on already existing and damaged steel parts". Is that true? I want to try galvanizing and then layering paint on... Has anyone here tried that? If so, is there a way to do this at home or do I have to go to a specialist??

Cold galvanizing is not going to remove or stop the rust. It also creates a nightmare when trying to do future welding and bodywork.
I would recommend keeping things simple. Remove as much surface rust as you can then hit the rust with a spray rust converter. Many box stores sell it in the automotive paint section. I get mine at Meijer's and have been using it for years. Works well and takes primer and paint when applied correctly.
Post some pictures of your rusted areas so we can see what you are dealing with.

That is what I would do. I use a spot blaster to get into tight spots to remove loose surface rust then use the spray rust converter. Once that is done and well cured I then use an epoxy primer and slosh that around on door interiors.

There is also a product called corroseal that is made for the purpose of coating rusty metal that works well for hard to get places..
