gas tank fuel neck

Hi guys,

In my 33 ford, I have the gas tank installed behind the seat. It is a Tanks Inc universal steel unit. I have a remote fill up on the fender, & need to do some plumbing now. I need a 2 inch fuel neck to weld to the tank, & Tanks Inc has them, but they are only 2 inches long, & not the correct bend angle I need. Between this fuel neck welded onto the tank & the actual fill neck on the fender will be gas hose.

Does anyone have any recommendations other than just using steel pipe, & then coat it after welding for long term rust prevention ?

Thanks,
Mike.

Aluminum pipe if you use a Hose at each end, Tank & Fendor. Stainless maybe?

You said you were putting the gas tank behind the seat, are you putting it inside the car. If so I don't believe that is legal or safe. They took them out of P/U trucks years ago when they were behind the seat.

My "Tanks" tank is way up under the car in my 33, I have the filler go up though the trunk and comes out righ where the roof comes down, I have a power door on it.

gas tank

35 terraplane,

I have seen countless 33/34 fords w/the tank behind the seat. I forgot the guys name who posts frequently here w/a 32 Duece, & he has his tank behind the seat, too. Even the guy who called himself Scooter that did the Project 33 web build put an aluminum fuel cell behind the seat (project33.com). I would think that most people who build hiboys would put the tank in the trunk area.

Legal ? Don't know 'bout that. But you are correct that many old cars had tanks behind seats. I know a friend of mine's mid 60's GMC pick up does, & he still drives it occasionally.

I'm going to check w/Tanks Inc tomorrow & see what they say.

Thanks,
Mike
