Hood hinge paint

I have got to ask you guys how do you keep the paint on those old hoods with the center hinge assembly? I am wanting to know the secret to this so I can keep the paint on my 29 Chevy. any advise is appreciated.

Disassemble the hood, pulling the center rod out. When you remove the center rod, if you can get the center rod out far enough to chuck up a drill to spin it out, it may also do a little cleaning for you. Get the metal clean, ( I used a small sand blaster ONLY on the hinge area) use a good epoxy primer, good paint, when you put the center rod back in, use a light oil and once again, spin it with a drill, lubing all places of contact. I used 3 in 1 oil, no problems, no chips.
