Iwata LPH 400LV gun for basecoat

Can I use this gun for base coat or do I need to get another spray gun or air cap? If another air cap would do, which one should I get for a solid Black paint?

Btw, I have the 1.4 tip.

Thanks...Al

Im thinking that the Iwata Orange cap would be better for base vs the silver cap, since it's a dedicate base cap. Is this an accurate assumption?

Thanks...Al

I personally am not familiar with the LPH400, but from what I have read from others, the orange cap for base and silver cap for clear, is how it was designed, but it seems most use the silver cap for base and clear and do fine. I'd say spray a few test panels and see if the cap you have works before shelling out the cash for another one. If you have the purple cap.......well again from what I have read......you have a nice paper weight. Hope this is slightly helpful, but it is based on what others that have that gun have said. I personally like the Sata RP guns. No caps to change etc, just load and run

Thanks Kelly. Question. Why do they say the purple cap is a paper weight?

The purple cap is well regarded as a good cap for metallic base. I sprayed base and clear with the silver cap and came out just fine. It was a metallic base too.

Thanks Josh, Like I said, I am not familiar with them, sorry for the mis-information. I have read on more than one occasion that the purple cap is apparently hard for some to use and causes a lot of problems?

Well, I couldn't use the purple cap (which a friend gave me to use) because it was plugged up and not spraying right! But I would have liked to. I've never read anything bad about the purple cap actually. Shine really likes it for metallics.

Okay again I stand corrected, is it the orange cap everyone hates? Sorry, I don't know Iwata LPH guns. I have a w400 I base with occasionally that a friend gave me because he hated it, but never used a LPH.

I will definitely try the silver cap with base. I don't want to spend monies I don't have too.

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread. I remember reading about one of the caps being almost useless (I thought purple, but apparently it was the orange cap?) any way, most people seem to be using the silver cap only with good results with most colors. My apologies for the mis-information on my part.

The silver cap I was using really hosed the base on, so just be aware of that.
