I got a little starry eyed working on the seat belts. Today I worked on the plywood seat. It started to curl with the Humidity so I braced it on the bottom and screwed them together. Then i painted 2 coats of grey paint to seal them up a bit. They will be all covered anyway but nice and sealed. I had to also paint the tubing inside the cockpit area they started to rust also. I put some black paint on them. I then had time to fool around with the radiator Shell grill opening. I cut it larger and evened up the sides and bottoms. It looks a tad better, I want to keep the same rectangle look as the wind shield, back window etc. Any other shape would not match the lines of the car I don't think. Anyway that's what I ended up with and I can live with it. The grill will be fairly easy for me to fabricate when I'm ready for that. Got some snaps..

After 4 hours of fiddling around with the seat belts I finally reached a satisfactory arrangement. I am satisfied with what I have, Ill weld and bolt them tomorrow. I also started the bench seats with 2 layers of 1/2 inch plywood i had. I glued and screwed them together to get an inch thick seat. I have some photos...

More paint and I fit the back piece of sheet metal. Now I have a double walled fire wall one in the trunk and one wall here in the cockpit area. I plan on using 3/16 veneer wood it bends easy and I can use self tapping screws. I have to move a little more slower here I donít want to get ahead of fitting my seat belts. I have a set I took from a 1986 Merkur I took the measurements so I can closely duplicate their attaching points. I will use mostly wood now as 90 % will be covered up by the seats. Ill try painting the wood 1st if I dont like it ill slap some of the upholstery on them. I also have to make some removable panels so I can service my shocks etc. Ill finish up screwing down this back part tomorrow. Then figure out the seat belt points and brackets. Got a few photos , photo 4 needs to be turned clockwise 90 degrees to view, or crook your neck to see it. My photo thing didn't work....
