Here is another shot of Dave's car a little farther along. Quite a few variants from the original showing up.

I am using an Old Air A/C system that has a couple of vents hidden behind the speaker grille. They didn't give any provision for adjusting the vents so I added some levers. Photo 1 shows how I brazed sheet metal tabs onto 4-penny nails, drilled the tabs on the vents and epoxied the nails to the plastic tabs. Photo 2 shows them mounted and sticking through the grille. I covered the new levers in shrink tubing so they won't scratch the grille paint.

Figure 3 shows how I adapted the stock '53 Chevy pickup shift lever to the modern column. I ground the modern shifter arm to a point so it shoves tightly into the old arm. Then I welded an extension on the shift lever pin so it passes clear through the whole assembly.

Don't ever eliminate this step - fill it with water and check for leaks! Even though you have great confidence in your welding skills, you almost always find a leak ot two as I did on this pan in photo 1. It is really a bummer to have the pan chromed or powder coated and find a leak after the fact.

One last step - lengthen the pick-up tube! I used a 1 1/2" piece from the tube in my donor tranny and brazed it to the one from my good tranny. Also brazed an extension on my dip stick.

A little wire brushing and sanding of the welds and off to the chrome shop! I am leaving the welds show under the chrome to indicate this is a modified HOT ROD item!
