02-25-2007 06:47 PM 283 Toast
Just can't win. The thrust bearing got toasted on the 283. I noticed the end play in the crank when I was installing an RV cam.Took the 350 I had in the garage and got it honed out ,a new crank, rings and bearings, the RV cam I was going to use in the 283,Edelbrock intake and World SR heads. She pulls pretty good now.

12-22-2006 06:53 PM Pan Finished
Sanded down the pan and hit it with some fast dry primer and a coat of Chevy orange to match the rest of the tranny. Just hope it doesn't leak.

12-21-2006 08:46 PM Drain Plug
I drilled the center hole to 1/2" for the drain plug that I stole from an oil pan. I could only find a castle nut ,but with a little trimming it seems to have done the trick. Filled all the inside corners with brass rod to smooth them out. Leak checked with water OK but with my luck something will go wrong later.

12-21-2006 08:38 PM "Milling" the Flange
I glued 2 pieces of emery cloth to a piece of 3/8" glass and used this to "mill" the flange flat . I used green marker all around the flange to check for low spots. It seems to have came out all right.
Whew.

12-20-2006 08:47 PM Oh Brother!
So I welded the tray to the frame with stainless tig rod and man what a mess. I don't mean my crooked messy welds,I'm referring to the fact that the whole thing warped like crazy.I spent about 2 hours knocking and grinding 3 sides. I have to drag a straight edge over each rim and grind down every scratch mark created by the dragging and repeat and repeat ........
I used a green marker on the rim to see better what I'm doing.
