Hey Hogg, been reading and learning from you for years regarding the L31. Great stuff you have put out there over the years. I have a question for you. I have a '96 RC/SB stepside, with 4L60e and 3.42 gears. I've upgraded to the 0411 pcm, and have purchased a new 12530283 long block, and plan to use Thorley long tube tri-y headers (1-5/8").
I'm wanting to upgrade the camshaft, as this will be my playtoy. I'm liking the SP350/367 cam you seem to be promoting these days over the LT4 hotcam. My questions are: 1) do I need to upgrade the springs/retainers/locks? 2) Should I use roller rockers? 3)If so, what is best rocker ratio (would prefer to NOT remove heads from block)? 4)Do you still recommend upgrade to S10 TC with this cam ? 5) Do you think adding the Ramjet intake will help greatly ? Lastly, I am also planning to upgrade to coil on plug ingition during this cam swap (EFI connection). Thanks in advance for all of your help on this. Mike
I'm new to the forum and looking to do a second gen S10 build with an L31 v8 swap. I'm trying to figure what to do to the engine to get the most bang for my buck. I've read lots of your posts and you seem to be very knowledgeable and respected for your opinion so I thought I would msg you directly. Here's what I'm thinking and how the truck will be used/driven:
LT4 Hot Cam w/LS6 springs and appropriate retainers
3.42 - 3.73 posi rear-end
87 octane gas
True dual exhaust with cats
No emissions testing in my state (TN)
Would like 300-350 hp
streetable with decent mpg
throw you back in the seat
bark the tires when changing gears
do decent burnouts (not that I will do them a lot)
will not typically see high rpms (over 4K)
So maybe you can share your thoughts/links as to what I should do to meet these requirements. I will appreciate anything you share with me.
Hogg,how 3e ya today?Quik question for ya.Do you know of anyone who makes a harness,or,pigtail, that will plug into the stock Vortec spider & then out to 8 individual injectors for a MPFI setup?I'm looking into using eithe the Ramjet,or,the E'brock Pro Flo XT.At this point,the Pro Flo will be the most likely.Also,do you know which type of injectors will be compatible with the Vortecs electronics?Thanks for any help you can provide.
