Need help on my 1938 olds coupe

Hello I have a 1938 Oldsmobile business coupe and Iím doing body work and I have a question on

When I do the doors and trunk should I adjust and blend in the doors to body with the door seals or with out the seals for the doors and trunk?

Thank you kelly

I always adjust the doors and trunk without the seals and then put them in for final tuning. Often there is some pressure as the rubber is too thick or too hard. If you adjust first and know they fit, then you add the rubber and when it's not too cool all that does is tell you it's the rubber and not your fitting, you know what I mean? So at that point, you move the striker out (or on a late model car leave it on the first catch) and leave it with the doors not fully closed for a few days then come back and move the striker in a bit, you slowly mash the rubber until it fits properly.

I have been doing that for years with good results.

Love the car! What's the powertrain? From the pic you posted, looks like SB Chevy with 3 deuces . . .

Yes it was a sbc 327 small jernal crank with Tri power but I decided to go with a 6.0 gm ls motor that’s 335/350 hp stock and going to change the crank and install a turbo on later shooting for 500 to 600 hp.

Martinsr

With out the door seals it looks good they match with a straight edge
With the door seal upper on it still matches good but if I add the door bottom seal it pushes out the door bottom 1/4 or so but the upper is flush when I adjusted my striker all the way in and shut the door hard .
Also I have bear claw latches installed

With out the strike on when I close the door I can feel it binding at the door bottom and lower seal .

What I’m thanking no of doing is taking some clay and rolling it up and installing it to the place where the lower door bottom seal goes and make the adjustments to the rocker to get the clay all the same thickness all the way across it.
Since I had the rockers off and thought I put them back In The same spot they came from.

Nice car! I'll be interested in what Brian says about the bottom door gap, my Maverick has the same issue. Only aftermarket weatherstripping is available and it pushes out the door bottom. The doors also need a good slam to close...

I don't know for sure if your talking about the vent or the 1/4 glass but it depends, a coupes back glass should roll down (not always) but a business coupe wont because theres no back seat so no need.

Thank you deadbodyman been working on it for 15 years off and on.
Yes itís a 1938 Oldsmobile business coupe.
At first I was going with a 327 small block Chevy small joineral crank tripower but then decided I would get more hp and fuel mileage from a gen 3 ls motor so I changed to that direction 325 to 350 stock with the ls and Iíve been thanking of putting a turbo charger on it also and tune it for 500 wheel hp just by changing the cam and a tune and injectors and still could be a daily driver if I wanted to. Now my job has me working long hours and 6 days a week tell July some time so I will stock pile parts tell I can get time to work on it.
I told the wife one Sunday a month Iím working on the coupe itís better then nothing.
I bought some clay and surian wrap to put the clay in I will roll it out to about a 1/2Ē the entire length of the lower door seal and find out where my door is binding when I close it that leaves it the door bottom sticking out a 1/4Ē
And then I will reshape the rockers to have the right dimensions when it closes to seal up I had the rockers off and thought they was I. The same place but I guess something is off.
