New 454 Owner

I just bought my first 454 block, I've been reading this forum for a while now but just registered.

I got a 454 block, Crank and Harmonic Balancer.

Paid $300
Cast# 14015445
It's a 4 bolt main

So I'm happy to be a part of the forum, the last motor I built was a 350 for my 70 Nova. This 454 will be for my 68 SS Camaro.

Over all, the block is in great shape and ready to go to the machine shop.

You got a hell of a deal. Around here a 454 is considered gold as it won`t be less than $800. And that`s for a core that needs a complete rebuild with peanut heads. Small blocks are a different story. Since I`m a small block guy I stick to them as they are what I can afford. The last one I got was a complete 1998 350 Vortec engine with the original Vortec heads. My machinist had it and I told him before I`d buy the whole thing he had to pull the heads and magnaflux them to be sure they weren`t cracked. He yanked the heads on the spot and magged them. When I saw they wasn`t cracked I said sold and paid him $300 on the spot. A 454 here in my city for $300? NEVER happen.

I'm stationed at Fort Hood right now and about to go to Hawaii, Thought I'd spend the next 3 years in Hawaii getting this engine exactly the way I wanted and drop it in when I get back to the states
