Mary Hill, thats pretty catchy! I was a good decade later to hit the scene but my area was way behind the times. It took a year for newly released records to show up in the store.

I kinda use the word sonic in place of "drive-in" because to me that means movie.

But I remember a few mom-n-pop drive ins and A&W was more up my alley because root beer was my favorite. Pretty much take a sno-cone stand, add some awnings and sidewalk and a grille then put up one of those rectangle signs on wheels with the perimeter of light bulbs with a third of them burnt out and some letters missing. We still have one of those around and it stays busy:

Try more than one Sonic. To find friends hanging out. Thats what its called until police show up, then its loitering and you cruise on. City kids.

I think my daughter and I will cruise over to Ajax this evening to see if anyone is "parking". Saying it correctly, to appease IDJ, it sounds like we're going to Blueberry Hill to peak in someone's windows while they're making out....ha....
Loitering. To catch them necking. Potsie and Joanie. Park, drop the tailgate and sit on it!

The more rural version of cruising involved hanging out at Sonic for an hour nursing a medium root beer until somebody else shows up. Then one car parks across the street and you take the hottest car to go cruise through the rest of the Sonics in that county. Province, to appease Pugsy. Parish if we're talking teen me. If guys from competing HS teams are found there, valve floating revs and general insults fly with the objective being fistfight (rumble) or racing (drag). The carload of girls is the happy grail to find unless you are dorks and if theres one for everybody and enough cars for all the couples, yep... thrill hill parking.

Its not far from 300K and you know as soon as the trans is back, the engine will fail. Probably the first day the air conditioning system restoration is complete. I know the only sensible thing to do once the trans is done is immediately get another shop to do that for me.

Its going to take an extremely counterintuitive mindset to reapproach that car. Way way way more stupid than any stunt to date. Its a restoration project thats a have-to taking food out of Grape's mouth.

The trans shop already called to say we don't know which one but an engine mount is bad. Oh and yes it does need a transmission. I didn't laugh on the phone. Told her I'd like the solid engine mount, a price on oil pan replacement while they are there if interested, and apologized for the mess and compressor rigged to the subframe. They will have questions. Final bill will probably end up being exactly as much as my bank balance.

MARTINSR WHOOOO HOOOOO! I got my 30 amp breaker set up for my welder. I welded with gas (OMG is that Flux core JUNK) and my first welds weren't to swift, been almost a year since I welded like this. Well, after a few I am feeling like a man! I made this ring using a piece of pipe I bought today as a "die" and it was perfect! So funny, I bought that pipe just on a whim that it was the right size to make this ring. I checked and sure enough it was about 3/8" smaller than the distance across the tubes on my mail box stand. I Then bent the flat stock as you can see in the photos around it. Measuring the ring, it wasn't perfectly round, 5 1/4" one way and 4 3/4" the other. Nick came out and was looking at it and asked me how I figured out how long to make it. I told him I used my magic powers, no math (not real good at that like he is) and just used magic. I weld it in front of him them pulled it out of the vice whacked it a few times with the hammer eye balling it as being round. I walked over and pushed it into between the tubes with it fitting PERFECT, the pressure held it there! LOLOL I acted like David Copperfield as I inserted it into the bars with it fitting perfectly. LOLOL
Yep I am a man, melting steel together Grrrrrr.

John long 10-4. Steve installed a Southern Rods system before he brought the car back. He even painted the vents to match the dash. Looks really good.

123pugsy I see a compressor but I don't remember any posts of installing an AC system.

Which brand did you use?

John long Barb is experiencing Sundowners syndrome and I was up till 4:00am which really made it hard to get motivated when Wanda came but I pushed myself to go downstairs and hit a lick. BTW, Barb woke me up at 7:30 and asked if I was ready for coffee.

I did put Precious up on blocks. Checked the fluid in the Muncie, measured for a speedometer cable, plumbed the coolant overflow tank, and found a rattle under the hood.

LOL, I also found out why my power steering is jerky when you at low speed or stopped. One belt is missing to the pump and the other one that also goes to the alternator just bearly touches the pully as it goes by. I am tickled to know it is not a bad steering gear or pump. I can afford a belt.

Lastly I spent an hour or so getting some overspray cleaned up under the hood. It looks 100% better.

Last thing left to do is go to bed early. I'm beat!

John

idrivejunk All we get is what we had when we came that still runs. I made the trans call just now and was figuring on the way home just how far away from A/C I am. Its warm. Means probable more rain ahead. Mechanic drove his two wheeler, gopher drove his Dad's rig. Red one was just loud but the trike did a burnout.

I know how much you guys likes bikes.

I do feel privelidged. Nobody else in the grey room has a second car and only the girl has A/C, in Daddy's car. Painter painted his Caddy wagon and the engine blew within a month. Mud and primer guy drives two hours each way with slipping FWD trans. Other bodyman has been using his Dad's farm truck for months, has a broke 400,000 mile Toyota. Guy who runs a broom has car, truck, dually, and builds engines. Mechanics have multiple air conditioned late models plus four wheel drives. Boss has three show cars, tow rig, some pickups, etc. Perhaps a protest is in order.

Ya, I'd say....you see where the money's going and it's not to the workers.
