AMC Spindle

I'm not certain how you can tell that it is an AMC spindle but I will take your word for it. I measured from outside of brake drum to outside of the other brake drum and it appears to be nearly 61.5 inches. Is there any other conversion that might be that wide?

enjenjo You definitely have AMC spindles. That is a good thing, because by using the correct stub spindle and rotor you can install any AMC disc brake on your spindle. Ambassador, Matador, AMX, Javelin, Hornet, Concord will all fit by changing the spindle stub. AMC only used two different stubs from 1950 to 1986, and they interchange on the spindle.

Pacer front end question

Is there a sure fire way to tell for certain if mine is a Pacer front end? My brother is not responding to my request to check out his old frame with a Pacer front end. It could be the snow has slowed him a bit. That has a tendency to do that when you are 84. Thanks - John --

kso Agreed about Pacer, especially with the drum brakes. I don't know of any other car that used them with a rack-and-pinion steering. Track for the Pacer is wide at 61.2 inches and the suspension is a bit heavy but the main thing is, if the width's right for the car then that's the one to use. Discs were an option if you should choose to change to them.

Back in the day I helped a buddy pull one for his drag-oriented '37 Willys build, both of us were new at that but ready to try anything. I don't think it ever got used, would make a better street setup.

39 Sedan Could be a mustang 2 rack and pinion but i can not be sure.

Can you identify this front end for me?

I'd like to repair/replace or change to discs but don't know what I'm starting with. It's a 46 Ford with a 302 engine and I'm sorting out what other mods have been made. Photos attached.
