I decided to go with flare fittings. Got the tool today and made a couple flares for practice.
Part of this project is to have a fun ride when I'm done ('31 Model A roadster hot rod). The second is to learn new skills.

So were looking at this:
Which I hate and can see leaking with high pressure once any coating around that tube gives way or the aluminum does not get crushed perfectly by that sleeve.
Why not get rid of the tube completly with a bulk head fitting?
Drill out the tube and run a an-8 bulkhead fitting.
Pull the sending unit/ pump cover. Run the pump to submersible fuel hose to an-6 male barb /an8 female(reducer below link) to an8 through connection(above link)(that is a 10 use a 8 of course) to an8 female to barb or female swivel for the rest.

If you're using a low pressure pump for a carburator,the compression fitting will do just fine.if efi,i would flare it.

IMO its a matter of having the correct tools.... a lot of guys don't do enough AN line flaring to recover the expense of the 37° flaring tool.
Don't forget that the flared aluminum line also needs a tube sleeve to go along with that tube nut.
I have used the compression fitting type hard line to AN adapters several times without a problem. Compression fitting on one end and AN male on the other was the type I used....you can get them with AN female also.
I don't remember if they were Earls or Russell.

AN Fitting to Aluminum Tube
I am running a fuel line from a trunk-mounted fuel cell. The fuel line is 3/8" OD annealed aluminum and the fitting at the fuel cell is AN-8. The tube manufacturer (Earl's) says the tube can be flared. I have ordered a AN-8 to AN-6 reducer to match the tube size
I am inclined to use a flared fitting rather than a compression fitting but I would appreciate input from more experienced rodders. Is one type superior or is it a matter of available tools ?
