Should be no reason it couldn't be continued as regular/ongoing usage. Especially in your situation where engine is of older (1960's) design and you live in a pretty warm climate. Far superior to what it ran for many years, right? ![]() |

I found Coastal oil in a place I never thought to look.....Tractor Supply. It is a 30 wt oil, but has the old SE/SF rating. It should be good for break-in. Don |

While I'm sure Joe Gibbs brand, Brad Penn, and all these other High-Line oils are all very good products. For those of us "on a beer as opposed to champagne budget", I don't see any problem in running oils from Warren Petroleum Products. After all, we are hopefully changing oil and filter on a very regular basis, aren't we? So long as proper additives are present in proper levels, and we are keeping it clean, isn't that the most important aspect? All oils breakdown and get dirty. Perhaps some a bit faster or slower than others, but they all do. |

If you have a Fred's Store in your area, their house brand oil, made by Warren Oil Co., has 10w40 and 30HD oil that are both rated SL. The guy at Warren I talked to last year said their SL oils have ~1000ppm of ZDDP in them. Warren also makes Coastal Oil products, so watch for that brand, too. Try the store locator at www.fredsinc.com |

Thanks for the LN link. I had read it a while back. They are running 20w50 oil in a 911 & when I called them that is what they recommended for the Corvair. I think that is too high a viscosity for a newly overhauled Corvair. For the first 5,000 miles I want to use a 10w40/15w40. I'll then use a centhetic. For break-in I want to use a 10w30 for the first 200 miles. There just is no 10w30 oil that is rated SL so I'll use a supplement w/a SM rated oil. Don |

More then you probably ever wanted to know about the subject....http://www.lnengineering.com/oil.html#Z24 from the quick read looks like 1/3 to 1/2 can of EOS is about perfect however this depends on your starting level of ZDDP Jordon |

Thanks Matt....I bought 3 cases of the red STP before it was pulled from the market. I also found a 15w40 oil at a autozone store today that is SL rated. It's made by Coastal. Don |

matt167 | Don, STP red has the right amounts of ZDDP in it. the blue has reduced amounts ( and is still sold )...

Okay...I use EOS to break-in the cam, dump the oil & filter then the problem returns. It looks like I have to use a supplement. Whish I could find someone that had the old SL oil, I'd but all they had. Don |

ScoTFrenzel | A little research will show what IS NOT in STP, like it used to be.

That is correct about not using EOS with every oil change. When I was working at the local Chevy dealership in the mid seventies we always used a can of it when we overhauled an engine, replaced a camshaft, or even replaced a short block. It is an excellent additive for initial run in, but should not be used all the time. FWIW, I am not a big fan of STP. Vince |

Vince, I have 1 bottle of the original EOS left. I will add the bottle to the oil before I start it. I understand there is a new formulated EOS out now, but know nothing about it. I know GM did not recommend using EOS with every oil change. I believe there was a problem with deposits. I also have several cases of STP(red) that is high in ZDDP. Don |
