Under most circumstances I say that people should inform the manufacturer so that they can try to find out how this happened, how many vehicles are affected, and keep it from happening again.
But I suspect that after 67 years, anyone associated with the manufacture of your car is well past caring. And probably everything about the line this car was made on has been changed, with the possible exception of the concrete floor.

It is truly amazing how good this car looks, especially if you compare to your first pictures from years ago.

John long As of yesterday, the top irons are on, plumbed, wired, and working. Still no word on the chrome so I am stuck here as far as the top goes.

Precious made it to the Cleveland Cruise In today. I just can't explain how enjoyable this car is to drive. It is so cool how she just does what she is supposed to do. I don't have 100 miles on her yet and I feel like I could leave for Boise tomorrow and go see Brian. Or maybe Toronto to see Pugs, or maybe......Well, you get the idea.

I had a 1960 parts car for Marge (my 59 Rambler) that I cut a piece of the cowl off to weld onto Marge being she was rusted there. Funny thing was what I cut off was in perfect condition but when I removed it I saw why the floor in that car was GONE from rust. There were a few spot welds in the inside of the cowl that had blown through so there were holes for the water that went into the cowl top went right into the car under the carpet! This was from new and never fixed! I don't know how you would fix it, or find it, it was buried inside the cowl in welded in panels so they just drove it all those years with wet carpets! Is that bizzare or what!

Oh no. It was all inside and in an area the interior will cover. I am thankful for that.

John long Steve came by today and we hit it pretty hard getting the system in and wired. We only had about three hours while Barb had a lady with her but we got a lot done.


The cylinders and pump are in. The system is wired and running but still have lots of dressing lines, wires, etc, to do.








I sure wish I had my chrome back from the shop so we could do some adjusting on these things.

John long Finished my mounting plate today. I also mounted the pump to it, plumbed all the hydraulic lines and bench bled the system. It surprised me to see GM had designed the hydraulic system in such a way that it could all be installed with the system assembled.

Pretty cool.

John long The 1953 Chevy convertible top pump was the vertcle style. It seemed to make sense to change to the horizontal style which was used for years, all the way up until the mid seventy's when Detroit quit building rag tops. What I did not realize was the mounts are not on the bottom of the pump but roll up around the side of thepump.



This required me to make a mounting plate that would support the rubber mounting points of the pump. This was my afternoon project.

Hopefully, I will finish this and assemble, bleed, and maybe install the pump and cylinders by the weekend.

John long Steve and Rodney came over today and helped me install the top irons for Precious. There is not much adjusting I can do without the rear quarter windows installed. Hopefully the plater's will be done with them soon.








LOL, Took this shot on the rack, while getting the exhaust installed. She could use a couple of hours of cleaning under there but, what the heck, she was built to drive, not show.

It really does. I have not opened the secondaries yet but it has gobs of low end torque from 1200 rpm's up. That is what you really feel with the 454. Just loafing along in high gear you feel like it wants to go. No need to down shift. I also really like the 300 gear set for the driving I do and it is dead quiet. That is cool.

While it was on the rack, we through a tape measure on the front wheels and found it is toe'd out 3/8. No wonder it is wandering pretty badly.

There are a few rattles I can hear since the mufflers were installed but all in all it is amazingly good.

Oh, One thing. I went to put gas in it on the way home and the pump cut off at just over half tank. Let's hope the empty end of the gauge is more accurate. I will be watching it closely for a while.

John long LOL, No more noise. Pretty quiet mufflers. No rap, no drone, No rattles. I'm pleased for sure. Barb's nephew did them for the cost of parts and refused any more. He is a good guy for sure.

They come out right behind the rear wheels.
