I beg to differ.... My 406 SBC (400 30 over) has 5.7 rods.. if i had the money at the time, i wish i would have used 6.0 rods. 400's don't like to breath at highewr RPMS.. You just have to get your rods clearanced to fit your cam. My motor makes good power up to a little shy of 6,500RPM... if i had 6.0 rods, 7,000RPM would be a walk in the park for my 400... but i didn't have the money at the time. (i also used aluminum heads, custom ground cam, schonefield headers, dart intake, jetted holley 700 DP, and roller rockers.)
The main point to be made, is in my 400 sbc, the longer rods help my motor to breath and make power at a higher RPM. This all deopends on other variables, but over all....

those rods are fine for your application. There are some slight benefits to longer rods, but its really not as big a deal as I've seen it made out to be.

|Ghetto Jet||Well chevy high performance ran an almost identical combo on a 350 and it put out horsepower in the 380+ range with torque around 400. So expect that and then some. In the CHP build they ran a performer rpm intake and a 750 Holley, don't remember what version.|

Alright, I've run into a problem with my other engine plans, NO CASH. So here is what I've got, reuse my stock crank and rods with a set of Kieth Black Hypereutecitc pistons that should set my compression at about 10.15:1. next I need to get a set of Vortech heads, and finally a Comp XE268 cam. I know the disadvantages of using the stock 5.565 rods. But, do ya'll think that it can rev to about 5500 RPM and run strong?
