For "C-notching" the rear I was gonna use a piece from an old drive shaft I had. As long as you beef up the inside, almost double boxing it, you should be o.k. I would think. Any thought on that?
Deuce, your right about the front I don't see that too often and if you want to get it that low, there are frames out there that have a higher curve up front i.e. the frame used on the Street Rodder give away car this year. (yellow 32 roadster). I don't like em notched up there either.

I built this chassis in 1988........and it is not notched.
But I most likely will notch the NEXT 1932 chassis I do....for my new project.......
I use a 3 inch piece of schedule 40 pipe to make my C section out of for the rear. I do not ever notch the front.
On a highboy......the notch is ugly IMHO......and you can get a little extra clearance by height adjustment without looking stupid (like on a fendered car)

|sodas38||There's two kinds of notches you may be referring to. The first are notched done up front on each side of the crossmember to allow room for the spring to bounce upwards without hitting the frame. The second is in the rear which are C-notches to allow the rear end to travel upward without hitting on the frame rails. Both are intended to allow additional suspension travel without hitting on the frame. It all depend on how low you are running your chassis. Either way you'll need to make sure those areas are beefed up, meaning additional boxing on the inside, etc.|

|[email protected]||Can you post a photo of what you mean, not getting a picture of it in my mind. If I understand you correctly, the notch is there to allow more soring arch and thus more suspension travel which is a good thing as long as isn't a fruit drop off the ugly tree.|

Notches in highboy chassis ?
New at this.....Bare with me.......I had this question in general discussion, but it was suggested to put here.
I ham having a frame built for 32 highboy. I've noticed lately many of these cars have a notch in chassis above front transverse spring? Some owners tell me i definitely NEED to do this......my builder says NO.....Then looking thru magazines I see "big name" shops without the notches / cutout ? I'm very confused and want to get this right the first time. Keep in mind i intend to DRIVE this a lot, and New England roads are terrible!
I'm using a 4in drop super bell axle ( I-beam) with a multileaf spring with slider buttons. American Stamping Rails but not sure what front crossmember is being used? Please advise and or share your experience.................Thanks
