[email protected] Those cars used thick stacks of shims to space the body parts so not to worry about paint thickness.

rcurrier44 I am most conserned with stuff like the hood, doors fenders etc.

My newest project is a somewhat different than most because of the extreme amount of custom fab that is going into the project. I am basicly making a 4 door 61 chevy truck out of a pair of 61 trucks. Most of the cars/trucks I have put together to date have been mostly for race purposes and not show so the body work has not been improtant. I would like to make this truck show quality and am prepaired to take the time to do it right.

[email protected] Not sure what your concern is. Paint will be only a few 1/1000ths thick and that thickness was accounted for by the factory when they painted the vehicle in the first place. I have never worried about that issue and all my cars have gone together fine. What parts of the car are you most concerned about?

"Trial fitting parts" thread vs. paint thickness

The "Trial fitting parts" thread got me thinking. How do you account for paint thickness when fitting parts before paint?

The easy thing would be to paint after the body is assembled.... but as I understand you realy should have the car broken down as much as possible before paint.

Do people just give a little extra room for it?

Do you make paper shims for each layer of paint?

Is it just not a problem?
