Joe, thanks for the reply/info.
I may consider rebuilding/reusing the CS130, but was/am considering other options because of the reputation it has.
I agree 10 years is not bad, but it is not a DD and does not have a lot of miles on it.
Before posting I already went to Pick a Part yard and got a CS144 and a CS130 that had a different case than what I currently have on my "original CS130". They were only $14 each and I wanted to confirm fitment issues before buying or rebuilding one.
To get the car back on the road, I have installed the CS144, but I don't really like the way it looks.
I also have a couple used CS130Ds that I could install with some modification to the mounting arrangement.
I had not heard about the grounding issue with the CS130s and I did not have a ground strap on the one I was using, but I will install one, if I reuse it.
Do the CS130D and the CS144 also need additional grounding if retrofit into a V-belt arrangement?

Ten years on an alternator and you think it's unreliable?
Rebuild your current CS130. The biggest problem with the CS130 is sensitivity of the voltage regulator to corrosion between the aluminum case and the iron stator core. These alternators must have a dedicated ground path from the rear part of the case to the block. Most factory installations have a bracket there that serves as a ground path. For retrofit applications, where the alternator only mounts to the front frame, use a separate ground strap. There is a TSB out about this early versions didn't have this ground path and failed frequently.

Which is more reliable, a CS130D or a CS144?
I have been using a CS130 for about 10 years and it died a few days ago.
It has worked well for a long time and provided all the amps I needed, but they have a bad reputation so I am considering a different model of alternator.
I don't need the extra amps that the CS144 provides and I don't like the looks of the bigger case.
I like the looks of the CS130D, but it would be a bit more difficult to mount it.
I have read that the CS130D and the CS144 are both more reliable than the CS130, but between the two, which is more reliable?
