Be it known this day that I, IDJ, recind allegations made concerning Pugsy's card status due to suspicion on anti-clutch remarks. Undue bullying with previous knowledge of bum foot nullifies said accusations. Subject is free to resume projects regularly to exceed the level of manly seen here.

idrivejunk The row of plug welds shown at the outside here is also done now-



This shows the minimized upper hinge arm clearance. Did not mess with lowers-



This one is to show the vertical thing going there, which was intended as a row of plug welds to the tubing. This side did not end up laying flat against it once gaps were established. So I added a sliver and changed to corner weld which will be much more like it anyway. Boss just wanted that upholstery hump over the rounded hinge tube rather than going farther up and lapping under the qtr.

But this shot also, inadvertently, best shows the primary objective accomplished by today's impromptu maneuver-

That will take care of those pointy, intrusive hazards and give the interior a smoother boundary, but I didn't get a thing done to the above-the-door section. Aside from deciding to remove the tacked pieces and either rearrange them so they reach the quarter flanges fully or slap a couple new, plain angled plug weld strips up there and go.

51 hits the floor as roller and old truck in the AM, I'm told. Who will take whats left together on it apart, I don't know. But I will look it over at the very least. You have seen everything except maybe the huffed mill. Which is going into the A as a mockup with blower.

I had Sweepy bust out the seat that was in the A-

Bibliography part two: In Kansas in 1980, just before Independence Day, I turnt 15 and that was enough for a learner's permit. But I didn't get one and that absolutely killed me as did parting with friends. Dad had already rodded an A by that age. I had been no-permit dirtroading the hand me down '75 or 6 CB125S since I was big enough (13) so clutch was a natural by this time.

Mom had a car, friend's sister had a car. Both cable shifted sticks. In August we moved to central Louisiana. oldest settlement in the Louisiana Purchase, est 1714. You just got a fullblowed license at 15, no learner. So I was of age before taking the test by like a month. That was hard to swallow!

Dad got a new car in late 79, first since the string of new Tempests every two years in the 60s. With nearly a quarter million miles and three rebuilds on it then, plus...

a B-W "retro" T-50 and 11" Zoom clutch. 3.23 10 bolt posi.... it was a weary beloved warrior.

Mom got another used car at the same time. Again, stick. She probably tested in her Dad's '39 Tudor or her Borgward. Her 53 Plymouth, 3 on tree, toted us all over tarnation as preschoolers.

Anyway, being how Tony got the Tempest first and I "had no" experience driving, that last new Tempest went to me and he got a '73 Laguna. Dark blue plain, no vinyl or stripes.

Our HS "carpool" (bunch of heads) and schoolmates (rednecks and jocks) gave us heck for using the promo tag off Dad's new car on the Pontiac. We had a fairly weak reason for it but Dad didn't want the tag. Its in the pic I most frequently post of the car.

But... being "patient" even as a kid and arguably brighter, hesitantly I took the safe bet for my test and it was not memorable in the least. Didn't even ask me to park fancy. But sure I felt neutered without the "Race Car", as we called the OHC6 Sprint (only Mom's cars got pet-like names). It was special ordered with newly available hazard flashers (underdash switch) which were for getting Mom into Wichita when I was done "baking", just before that happened.

All true lies and if that jogs a memory I'll be suprised. But again we put a couple cold, winter-trapped minutes by with a bonus, real, historical if not hysterical car story. With only one Festus word! Make a game of scavenging the answer if you'd like to pass the time.

I was going to say the Tempest Sprint, but it would have been a bit old by the time you tested. Did they keep it that long ?

idrivejunk The lower hidden hinge tubes have a hole for a door stop bolt, through the tube. I dropped bolts in the top but the bottom hole is gone and blocked.



No biggie, but I wanted to show boss where they stop. This is where. By our reckoning its fine for getting out but in seems a little crowded by the door.



Since that looks close to being able to maybe open a little more if desired, while having no interruption in the weatherstrip bed. Cool. Thats where I will leave room for the hinge arms to swing out to.

While he was handy, sold him this occupant shoulder saving, interior man helping, contour smoothing, space around hinge minimizing, corner rounding upper tube alteration for a couple hours a side. Its an improvement. One side rough ground, other close to welded currently-

And? Soooo....

Oh you guys and your politeness.

That might make a funny looking car but you would earn the Gearjammer title. Probably never be in the right gear at the right time though, for stoplight grand prixs.

Too Many Projects Can't seem to insert the pokey stick no mo' and I MISS that.

No purism in not installing a 13 speed. The trans is 6 ft long and 2 ft wide/high and weighs 800 lbs. I'd have to sit in the back seat, like a funny car...

My birthday is in May, so I got out of the winter testing situation.

You never caught the bug to drop a clutch at 5k and power shift thru the gears ??? There's just something satisfying about being able to do that.

I guess I was "lucky" in that my parents never owned a car with an automatic until I was 36 yrs old. I learned to drive and pass my test, with a 3 on the tree. Having 3 pedals and a lever to slam around has always been in my blood...
