I forgot to tint the glass but man yeah, I'd be all over that. The pic was from a Mecum ad I think, fine blue SS with thrusts... not much more a guy could need.
Went in just to illustrate a hood idea and ended up here. This one is like Highlights, just for you. Except the answer isn't printed upside down at the bottom of the page.
There are several changes shown here. Thoughts welcome or un, whichever applies. Just sent to owner and boss.

That was my Shag and Scoob reaction when I did a little homework on the impending hood hinge swap.
They uh... well theres.... er, ah... both ends of the dadgum setup are extremely different. Doggone it.
Deep breath, exhale half.
Only saving grace I see is that the rear hood reinforcement cross brace thing is located a similar distance from rear of hood, and on a '56 the two mount points appear to be located on the ends of that. In line, vertically. 51s mount in the back corner. So man, Mitch you must have looked at some trucks. I hadn't much. Until today.
Next thing on that, then, seems to me to be laying a billet hinge over a stocker and assessing the conflictuations. Ultimately, I suppose if a guy was to get it working with one stock hinge and one new... that would constitute a complete victory. Rather optimistic, however. Might be best if I just never even look at the 51 hinges.
Hood hinges will be like machete through forest, roger that.
They are awful close to my new pillar. I am thinking the IDJ way may come into play. You just thought the hackery had to be finished. Theres rust after that. Things gonna look like a coffee table by the time it gets blasted.

The Pugsy way. By IDJ:
A nylock nut goes on that. Regular nut for me, for now. Thats how you know you have these hidden hinges in the right spot, you just jam the hinge pin nuts against the panel skin as impossibly close as possible and deal with the rest.

As to the model A door "thing"... Mike had me ninja'ed already. I managed to shoot the pic in vertical format plus from exactly the wrong angle so the actuator link is obscured by the lock handle. Woops.
Only one side was done though.

I did size up the hood hinge thing yesterday and it actually looks like cake. Four hole pad on the cowl should do it.
You're right, doors done sounds better than one door done. It will go easy now that I know what to cut.
Heres a pic I was hunting, found in Oct '18 blog. Actuator orientation can be seen if you look for the white plastic business end. No obvious conflict with the suicide locks. Yay!

You have enough experience with both of these installs as to not be in a "learning" stage on the first side, but the job does seem to progress quicker with familiarity.
I vote for right side hinges next. Get the hinge aspect, with doors hanging acceptably, to a stage that is solid, but still amendable later if needed, and get the latches in after that. I don't care for the "drudgery" of repeating the same work on the other side much either, but I believe you will feel a good deal of satisfaction when both doors are swinging and latching before tackling the hood hinge re-engineering challenge.
