idrivejunk Swing and a miss. Was hoping to have video with motion for you today but close as I can get you is a third hand account.

I watched a video of the Cat idling. It has racy lope. However, oil leak.

Also heard the monstrous blown 5.0 and trans crate is out and ready to see action, and saw the long big crate before they knocked it apart-

Boy. Told ya it has been waiting in line quite a spell-

Thats for the '51 job and I guess it is safe to call us "crate-rs". Rust craters, that is. Thats a joke, son.

idrivejunk These are what I had roughed out months ago, both sides-

Ripped those out. Woops I don't have this apron on top of the pan. Forgot last time I stabbed the apron. Be awright.

New, more seal friendly design...

idrivejunk I have a driver's door sill made. Two pieces, weld prep done. Replaces what I had there and provides an inner seal location along the bottom.

idrivejunk Oh, and... I think I may have talked the boss into a metal lower dash with removable and upholstered upper dash using the fiberglass part.

idrivejunk I finished that but didn't get a pic. Actually, that goes for the whole thing. I gave myself until end of pay period to be ready to pass the A along. That was today, and I told the boss. He had end of the actual week in mind because thats when Mike will have done all he can. By the way, the bumper plater on that said no more old car bumpers, ever, and is trying feverishly to produce the ones for the Cat.

The 51 pickup and frame will come inside Monday and first thing, it's blown Coyote will be used for mockup in the A. Or so goes the plan. If theres anything significant to show between now and then, I'll get a pic.

idrivejunk The phrase "almost done" has been crossing my mind. But thats not far for a phrase to travel.

Thanks. It was easier than it looks and the DA sander finishes things so nice. Those cowl side to top welds were suprisingly easy though. You may have noticed I use a straight die grinder for twist lock discs. Rather than an angled one. Never had an angled one except once that did not last. So it is out of necessity that I do so, but I have found that being able to grip the tool as a writing stick can have an advantage in some cases. The weld you commented on, I was sure would need a lot of touch up but what you see is one weld and one grind. But it was done cautiously. Inside corners are never fun with a MIG and this side needed twice the fill as the other side.

I gotta ask what I am supposed to do with that dash. I plan to say "next job please" by the end of today if at all possible.

I used the lip off the new cowl top panel. Just the front edge. Had to patch a piece in the center.

idrivejunk Proof they tried those bezels both ways-

I got this side all up there with decent gaps but pulled the rear fender to weld up where I tacked the correction cut at the flange for the apron. Like the other side still needs. Front fender needs the same small inner back corner patch to look nice on top of the frame rail but the long slice like over there is not needed.

Boss was on me at quitting time so that quick snap is all there is. He wants me done now, so we have reached that point where I sprint to meet requirements then forget it. I feel that in our five minute talk, I got the tidbit of info I was fishing for.

This morning, looking at the door jambs with an upholsterer's eye it occurred to me that adding an inner door seal could go right along with what I am about to do there. Boss was not so concerned with what interior man will run into but he latched onto the no wind leaks train of thought readily.

So... picture a modern pickup door opening seal arrangement, weatherstrip and all. Made out of angled strips. I make a rectangle that hugs the door's inside shape, space it in about 3/8" from there and presto. I might want to sketch it tonight just for myself so I can be closer to planned. Sounds good but I'm sure theres a catch. You know.

We all figure cardboard headliner, and don't figure we'll get anywhere asking the interior guy to advise. So its off to the improv show!

idrivejunk Well, alright then. This is where I am at. Spent most of the morning adjusting door strikers on that red 67 Camaro and talking with Mike about it instead. Nobody can help, I'm on my own but have a little better solution for a couple places around the doors.

Headlight bezels are going shiny black.

Still no bumpers but heres the trunk closed-

Thinking through next things and wishing for some input on interior attachment. Any thoughts you may have had based on what you've seen here are welcome.

A well known and justly so custom interior specialist in a neighboring state normally handles (beautifully) interior needs for us in this type of build scenario. I will be attaching body to structure at door openings soon and before I go there:

What kind of flange or groove or flat and facing which way on what side of which corner... and stuff like that... do you want? To build in from with upholstery and carpet.

I suppose these are questions to ask the man doing the job but he is busy and so am I and I am a greenhorn on that part. So do you know any general rules or popular methods or have any tips?

Along with the door openings, soon I will wonder if we'll want tabs to clip a cardboard headliner to, or good places to attach bows for that kind of headliner. Then do you need an extra flange to attach push on molding around the windshield?

Et cetera. I am listening.

Fortunately, around the side and back glass and in the trunk jambs, I have satisfactory mental pictures of what I want to do. If I can generate a coherent specific inquiry with visuals, I may make an interior post and have some multiple choice options. I figure the more I can do while I am already doing, the better it can be for the interior guy.
