changing control arms, center link, tie riods, is the strut rod a support or alignment rod

Years back I would use new ones from the Chevy dealer rather than screw around with the old ones on a front end job. No idea if they are available. But these came with the nuts, washers and bushings. Before I took them out I would measure up one side and make both of the new ones the same length. This is from one of the small holes at the end to the back of the adjustment nut.

Then I got smarter on '65 to '70 Impalas. I would add maybe 1/4" of shims on the upper control arms. These never had shims. If I had a caster pull, I could jockey the shims around on the arms and not have to put the car back up on the rack. Once you touch the strut rods, you have to do the tow again.
