I'm glad you decided not to undercoat it. Check out AG 111 chassis paints in satin black. This finish paint was developed for the New York City subway system. It's as tough as paint gets

ml69 Sounds good that's what I'll do.

idrivejunk I'd go semi and kinda fade it out into the surrounding area. You could also apply a rocker panel chip guard type of coating before black if a little texture would help. Just another way there. But originally it may have been almost shiny like a chassis black. No matter, once a film of road dirt from use accumulates, it will even out the look.

ml69 Ok. I'll prime/paint before I undercoat it. If this were a frame off I wouldn't undercoat it but I can't completely clean it out by the frame rails where the old undercoat is still there so I think it would look weird to be partly undercoated and partly painted. Thanks.

idrivejunk Ha... Epoxy primer, then paint, then undercoat. The primer is for adhesion, the paint seals out moisture, the undercoat prevents chipping. Fair 'nuf?

Nothing but the best, because... P O N T I A C.

Do I need to prime and even paint it before I undercoat it? I'm assuming it was primed/painted from the factory before the dealer applied the undercoating when it was originally built and sold, so there must have been primer and paint from the factory, no? I'm not concerned with replicating the factory process, just whether it's recommended for protective purposes that I apply primer/paint prior to undercoating it. Thanks for your help.

I would not undercoat it. Prime and paint it.

Hipster_G Epoxy prime it. Undercoat doesn't like to stay on bare metal

Should I put undercoat on over bare metal?

Guys,

Do I need to prime and even paint it before I undercoat it?
