4 hour work day for me at the shop. Used the time to do a valve body swap on a '01 Jetta 1.8t auto .... I successfully installed a transbrake on the car .... that however wasn't my intention.

Its in 2 gears at once in park, all other gears (R/N/D/2/1) are forward gears.... they all seam to be first gear.

I have it torn back down most of the way. Tuesday I'll actually get the VB back out and see whats up.... but part of me wants to take it out for a test drive the way it is just for the fun of it.

I got my bed home from the shop today on the tow truck, a couple co-workers came to my house and helped me get it on the truck. The one thing I found out is my rear end is a bit narrow and I will need some offset rims damn it. But it's all good, tomorrow I will get a fender or two on.

You just can't make this stuff up! After the guys from the shop helped me get my bed on my truck they got my couch out of my house for a bulk garbage pickup tomorrow. So we put the couch out on the lawn and there is my knife on the lawn next to it. Once in a while my knife will get knocked off my pocket doing something like that, I didn't think a thing of it and put it in my pocket. A few hours later I went to get my phone from my pocket and my knife was in the way, I couldn't move it over, HUH? I looked down to see TWO knives in my pocket! The one I found on the lawn had fallen out of the couch! I lost it over a year ago! LOLOLOLOL Nope, you just can't make this stuff up!

Dang, your garage is looking necked. Are you taking the compressor ?

Throw spacers behind the wheels..

Are you planning to leave the doors with just the Velcro bands to hold them shut ? I would get a couple, long elastic straps, the solid black kind, not the bungie type, and run them on the inside to hold the doors tight. Don't want them beating themselves up on that long of a trip. Maybe use stick on sponge screen door seals between the door and pillars as a cushion. I brought a Chevelle home, 1,200 miles with the windshield held in place that way and shrink wrapped to the car...worked great.

Took a while to find the pic...

Wish I could be there to give you a hand. Having moved SO often myself I know how much "fun" it can be
My God, it's WILD how crazy it is! The CRAP the "treasures" I have saved for 30-40 years that I have thrown out, it's just WILD! I have moved it a few times, never doing a thing with it, now throwing it away!

Today I got the bed and fenders fully mounted for the move. I don't mind saying, when I stood back and looked at it with the fenders on I got a little verclempt, it's been 25 years since it was together like that!
I really like the look, this makes me feel a lot better right now. I have a ton of pressure on me right now, and this made me feel a lot better. It's ready to go, now I can comfortably move on to other things that need to be done.
Though now I find I will likely have to get new rims for the rear that are offset to clear the bed and stuff I am so damn glad I got these rims and tires so I could have a roller. I lucked out and found them on craigslist, rims and tires bolted them on and done deal. If I would have had a blank check and ordered anything I wanted it wouldn't have been different, they look so good and getting the job done holding it up off the floor. It's funny that the running boards look like the same red, that I painted 35 years ago in lacquer.

Anything lined up in Idaho, or just getting settled in and then looking ?
Yep, just looking. I have a few things I could do, but kinda part time. I have already got hooked up for that. And I could go full time estimating right in my house, but that will take a month or so because I need a license. But I have that lined up, it sounds damn good.

I hear ya on the pressure to move. 3 weeks ago we were "just looking"... now we close in 2 weeks on the "new" place. WOW, that happened too fast..
I've crammed a lot into the last 3 days too. I got the '54 as ready as it was going to be yesterday morning, then loaded parts into the trunk of the '62 and got them on the rollback and trailer and up to their winter retreat.

This is 50 miles from home, so I wanted the spare and jack for the trailer with. The spare went in the trunk of the Impala and the ramps for unloading that off the trailer went in the back seat of the '54. Once I got there, I needed to come up with a way to transport them home again, cause they weren't going in the cab of the truck...

I have the ramps against the front of the floor crossmember and the wheel centered on the stake pocket. This worked great, as it never moved bouncing on the empty trailer all the way back.

So in the meantime you are sorta semi-retired (except for the stuff with the move itself, the driving back & forth, the storing stuff in the new place, the work on the AD etc.)

Piece of advice: You will easily lose track of time as in "what day izzit"? because retirement takes all the meaning out of "weekends", so keep a calendar handy. When "Saturday" and "Wednesday" are the same with no commitments.......

I have not found that to be the case with me.

Sunday church, Monday cruise night, Wednesday church, Thursday eat with the gang, Saturday something somewhere. I love Tuesdays.....Nothing planned! :D. I always know what the day is but might have to think a bit to come up with the date. As in "what was the date last Sunday when I wrote that check?" ;)

Ain't life good?

Last week, I noticed coolant pooled on the intake manifold of the Camaro. I had filled the system the week before, but it's never run or had pressure in it, so this was not a good sign. The thermostat housing is an aftermarket that came with the previous engine and I swapped it onto the current engine, knowing it would most likely leak. The O-rings never seal again for me, once they have been compressed. I want a different neck, but it needs to be a swivel to clear the alternator bracket I made. A new, 45 degree neck is $40 and I wasn't in the mood to spend that, so I took the old neck to NAPA and lo and behold, they had an o-ring that looked exactly like what I needed. I installed it today, refilled the coolant and then slowly pumped the pressure up. At 12#, it seemed to hold fine, at 15, the needle started to drop and I saw coolant dripping on the floor off the lower radiator hose. I thought "great, the water pump seal is leaking", but looking up from the creeper, I saw it was the hose, so I tightened it a little over a turn and the leak stopped...:D I pumped the pressure up to 15 again and it held steady for 15 minutes with no other leaks. Yea, the new o-ring worked.

Then I rolled under the car and ground off the floor patch welds for primer sealer...yuck, I was a filthy, itchy mess after that.
