Finally got the Escape in to the dealer today for the ABS Problem. I dropped it off early this morning and picked it up late afternoon.
The problem was the ABS tone ring and they also replaced the sensor cause it got damaged from the tone ring failure. I guess there a real common failure item which doesn't make a lot of sense unless they had a batch of bad tone rings. They are pressed onto the half shaft and it fails between the teeth at the thinnest part of the ring.. The good news was it was covered under warranty so a no charge repair.. I like that...........

|123pugsy||CURSE cruise tonight. Bumped timing by 6°. Scary stuff. Thought I'd come back with holes in the pistons. But she's breaking thru the back brakes nicely now. I think by next track day, I should be able to break that 14.7 .|

By the way, gents... my carb tantrum t'other day was apparently just my normal kicking and screaming over car expense. How my mind works now and most know that. Pure drama and I'm trying to cut down. Me and my buddy Back Space. I can do something carby but stop at that. Or whatevz. Time to start getting used to scaling back 455 usage.
A scrap truck about bought me and the DD today. Never looked or stopped at the sign. I'd say his bumper swished past my one yard line. But the GTP got another giggle out of me and I spoke to her like a pet, a good girl. Knocking down 24 MPG flat now. Pist Fump!
Kidding, I'm no hypermiler. Just waiting for any chance to bury the boostometer and its next to the 24. More sentences to veer toward the GTP-dwelling winter ahead... Man, I gave a Corvette waiting to turn a directly aimed cone full of WOT M90 shriek at about the bottom of second, other morning. I know know the driver got an earload of that. Last but not least, the ornery little joker scratched a good second gear rip at part throttle this week. How about that?

Yessir, its all about keeping air off the steel. Stuff with air in it can't do that.
I absolutely know the drill... laugh it off... Then get to it.
On my current task, per fairly specific conversation with boss and in fairly standard procedure for us, I rattle can etch primer in hideaway potential corrosion spots. Like on my thread now. (We collectively disapprove of weld-thru primer.) But with the understanding that at a few certain points during the buildup, thorough epoxy application is a priority and metal work pauses for that.

The owner had a 69 that I personally thought was a perfect package, overall. I fixed a parking lot dent on a quarter many years ago. To my dismay, several years back, I was asked to go look at it to determine if it should be fixed. Man, was it a hard hard hit. No, on the fixing. Thing would bring a tear to yer eye looking at it. Fast forward to now and well, there you go. Replacement Camaro!

$2,500 plus any extra work to repair unseen issues and he was all over it... At that point, boss couldn't say "no, we can't fix that" To us, the car isn't worth $2,500. To the owner, it's his "show car". It has 5 Siliken high amp batteries, 4 of them in the trunk and cables as thick as my fingers to power a stereo system he is installing.. I'll get more pics at a later date. Here is just one of the "extra cost" repairs I will be doing. Not a biggy, but more shop time and cost for the owner.
Cut the cage, pry it up and extract the nut. Now I can heat the nut and remove the broken bolt. Place back in cage and weld shut. We have a collection of cushions to replace that without chasing one down to purchase.
This is just an interesting tid-bit of how rust develops. First pic is the frame, with the body mount hole rusted nearly perfectly matching the outside diameter of the cushion. Hard to clearly see how thick the frame material is but it's about 1/16th inch.
Here is the frame material that was stuck to the underside of the cushion. It is 1/4" thick. Rust grows and expands as it eats thru steel. That is why a rust "bubble" pushes paint up as it expands under it. Same with filler spread over bare steel. The metal STILL rusts under the filler and expands, unless the filler and metal are sealed with a coating to prevent any moisture from getting to the metal. Modern epoxies are made to do that and applying filler over the top of an epoxy primer/sealer has become a better way to prevent rust from forming under filler at all.

I guess I got to work on a "show car" today too, at least that is what the owner calls it... I only have 1 pic from the side for now and I'll keep the rest of the surprise for when I get it down and can get pics.
For now, we/I am doing a "little" frame repair...
Photobucket seems to be working some after their major overhaul, so I've uploaded the pics to there for this post.
I cut out the entire right frame rail to section in a replacement.

Next time, close the file after rotating, reopen the file and it should "stick".

The best part, my wife is so accustomed to seeing these things, when she saw the double ladder arrangement yesterday, she just said "that looks really safe"...
Well, I can't get the second pic to post upright. She held the camera vertical and that's how the memory wants to keep it. I rotated it in my file, but it keeps coming up sideways...
