Thats cool I made some tubular fender brackets for the model A job, too.
Grape kept tugging at my right shoe impatiently after groceries so I figured I would entertain her wishes and she led me to her curvy place again. After last week's encounter I was a little leery but she seemed to want to show me something. Turns out she smelled another purple thing and wanted to chase it. I just worked the pedals and watched the Art show trying to catch it. Passed it with flying colors and my favorite was the red part at the end. The end.

Fired up the heater and went to work building braces today so I could get the jackstands out from under the front fenders. I have no idea how the fenders were supported, but I've got none of those parts, so this was my plan. I made up these vertical braces to hold it up.
Once bolted on it felt really solid. But then I grabbed the fenders and wiggled them laterally and they moved quite a bit. There's a lot of tin hanging out there, so I made lateral braces from the frame out to existing holes in the lower fender lip. I couldn't find any info on lower braces either, but found holes on either side of the bumper bracket reliefs in the fenders. So attached to those holes, and they worked great to tighten it up.
I grabbed my nutsert tool and installed nuts into a bunch of existing holes, which saved a lot of time, and let me use blind holes. The more I use the nutserts, the more I love them. Used up all my 5/16 nutserts, so need to order more soon!
After that I got out the '32 Ford radiator, and built a pair of bottom brackets to hold it. The mounts were 1.5" narrower than my frame rail width, so I added 2.5" to the bottom of each frame rail with plates, and bolted them in to the frame lip. One hole was there, so only needed to add a 2nd to each side. Then a single bolt through the radiator mount, and some rubber under it to isolate it.
Radiator is REALLY close fitting! The brackets on the upper sides are less than 1/4" from the fenders, and that's moving it back close to the fan to get to a wider area.
I still have to fabricate upper mounts from some point to the two side brackets. There's also a center top plate that could be used, but I'd like to not use the two stock rods back to the firewall. If I can locate some nice chrome, or polished aluminum 3/8"rods I'd use them, but otherwise I make a bracket to tie the radiator into the grille top.
Top hose is a gimme to find and install. Bottom is a very short 90 degree hose that isn't maybe 12" total. Might be interesting to see what i can find in a 1.75" hose that's a short 90!
My mechanical fan sits low to the radiator, and the top 1/4 of the core wont get air pulled through it. I may build a shroud to take care of that, and I might also install a pusher style electric fan on the top front to come on if it does run a little warm.

Roundabouts are fairly new here, I bet the one by the interstate was a circus the other morning. Traffic was pretty threatening for some scary wrecking years but infrastructure has caught up a little. A little. They are scrambling to build. Half the commute traffic is fullsize four door trucks towing all they can, an alarming number of dump trucks, and semis a'plenty. When it rains, everyone is either Mario or Magoo I swear. But a gallon of milk is 15 minutes done, with 5 choices.
I sure am feeling more square to the world... got the wheels swapped around on my junk and trimmed the rear brake pad squealers on the GT. I'm all set and she is lookin hot to trot.
Even primed the Grape carb without spilling a drop. Maybe Mo and Jo felt merciful, no injuries but I bet it was funny to watch me working around the curb to shuck wheels off the GTP. There was a moment when I was getting a stock jack out of the trunk and forgot to remember the angle I was on in the driveway and got clobbered mid-spine by the falling trunk latch. Never felt it or cussed.
Sun is almost treetopping, I better get to getting my sanity preservation cruise. It was Pontiac time when I started typing. (4:55)

Ahhh rush hour! I got caught in the worst one yet here on the coast the other day. I be darned if there weren't two other cars in the round a bout in the town center!! That was Killer.... That's one thing I don't miss out here in the Sticks, is traffic!
In Seattle It was Traffic MAD! It will drive you nuts. by the time you get where you are going you are angry enough to spit nails all the time as it's 24 7. If I wanted anything I had to deal with traffic Jam central just to go get a gallon of milk. That is one reason I left Seattle. Traffic Sucks There!
Here, If I go into Aberdeen, it is about a 40 minute drive from the house. Sometimes the traffic in Aberdeen might get a little bottle necked because of a freight train but mostly just speed limit all the way.
I am digging it!

|Too Many Projects||I've driven Maliblu about 140 miles with no issues, other than the rear brakes sticking from rust from sitting. I have it on stands now and freed up the rear caliper guide pins. I ran the 14 month old gas down and topped it off with fresh stuff Thursday and ran it for 60 miles on the fresh gas and it is running smoother. I'm now waiting on our son to show up with the "temporary" car I bought 14 months ago. We will swap the snow tires onto Maliblu and he will take that again. It got transferred into his name now, as we no longer live in the same state for us to carry him on our policy. We DO, however, get to keep paying the premium, while he is trying to complete a degree in IT...|

The other day on a 47-54 Chevy AD truck facebook page someone asked about disc brakes on their STOCK truck. I gave a simple explianation of why you would need or not need them. And it really comes to their expectations of the truck. If they are towing a boat on windy mountain roads then by all means get the discs. But if it's a drive around town kinda truck there is no need what so ever. OMG the guys who jumped on me telling me you CAN'T drive with drum brakes on "modern highways" geeeez. One of them explained why you MUST have them basically telling me to drive tailgating you need to have them to stop fast when the car in front of you has modern brakes and they stop fast! LOLOLOLOL I told him that literally made me laugh out loud. They just don't get it, he said "I have lived it not just talked about it" LOLOL again, got some good laughs on that one. Posted a photo of my Rambler saying I drove it EVERY-SINGLE-DAY in the SF bay area for 8 years, I think I have "lived it" and never had a problem, he didn't respond. LOLOL My God our image of time is so twisted!
They don't notice that the cars they passed blocks or miles before are still beside them. They "blame" that on people in front of them. Instead of looking at it like a science project, you can't move faster than traffic, just a bit of science there. LOL

Catching up on local news, I see that a big interstate pile up from localized icing in my immediate area stopped traffic both ways Thursday morning and media directed everyone to exit on the road that I have to nail it to get onto in normal conditions. Thats why I sat there waiting minutes because every single car was tailgating and the first one I saw using a sane following distance was my only break so I took it. My junk moved fast enough as to not create a hazard but that didn't stop that BMW from laying on their horn after I had sprinted the couple hundred yards to my next turn. They were probably mad about the condensation cloud they drove through that the huffer puffed out the tailpipes.
And thats why when I got to the 5 lane road I was again stuck in a big traffic jam with frying trans. By the time I went to work in the GT, there was zero traffic. Which leads me to the puzzle I have pondered my entire adult life...
Why on earth is society set up to generate maximum traffic congestion? Everyone has to be everywhere at 8 and leave at 5 and if that weren't enough, daylight savings' design is such that everyone must drive both ways for a maximum number of days each year with the sun in their face. None of that ever made a lick of sense to me. The world has configured itself for maximum conflict. Business owners and insurance executives force the little people like me to comply with idiotic things like that for their convenience. Damn the rest. Belligerent effers.
Rant done. Now you know the rest of the story.

The control arm dampening struts or whatever... as a sway bar... presumably to free up space... thats a new brain wrinkle on me. Well, I'll be.
I made it around in the GT today. Processing the daily driver situation slowly but GTP rescue operations are a long ways out and the decade long relationship with the GT is second only to Grape. Supercharger, meh. Thats what I am telling myself until I can concentrate. Seemed like a long week.

Yeah I was wondering if the braces were going to hold but the Contractor said "No Worries" He has been using these forms a long time and never had a blowout. What I noticed was the forms were made out of some weird kind of stuff kinda like a glass fiber coated wood. The walls were 1 1/4 thick. they are braced on the bottom with lengths of re bar driven into the ground. the upper form also has re bar near the top and verticals all the way to the footing. of course the form clips on top were 5/16 steel. I just came in from looking at it and there is not a bulge 1 or any deformation at all anywhere..
They put a hell of a lot of Re bar in this thing as we are in a prime earthquake zone also and double the bolts to secure the building to the foundation. There were also steel bolts in the corners that are tied to the re-bar also. The big thing on the coast is wind loading and the building has to withstand a full on 120 mph wind. All in all it looks good this morning. Monday they will pull the forms and start leveling the floor area and prepare for the floor and aprons to connect to my driveway.
Stage 1 done on to stage 2.

I came home and found the guy inserting straight pieces of threaded rod. Couldn't do a thing about it either. Concrete was setting. Only about 5 of them spun when tightening.
