The 4.3 is a dog. It was designed to be a 200k engine. It is more industrial based then hot rod based. The engine is also outdated. You missed the performance parts window. Any stuff you do find will be expensive. The 250 can be built. Some of the things the Australians have done is amazing. But none of that stuff comes cheap. Simple fact is if you want power your best bet is a v8. Run a 350 with vortec heads and around 9/1 compression. Good chance your going to exceeded the power of the above two out the box with lots of room to grow. Dollar for dollar a 350 will get you the most horsepower of these 3. Dont get me wrong I like the 4.3. Never understood the 2.8. But I like the 4.3. The thing is a good engine as long as you respect it for what it is. You can improve them to make v8 power but you can make that same amount of power in a v8 with far less stress. The 250 is also in the same group. Good engine when it is used as intended. But if you want to make more power, and have the room, and have a problem, and need help, and you can find them. Then you need a V8. |

[QUOTE=Husein-p;4692413 stock piston can be use again after rebuilding engine ? this v6 is std but need to shave to about 20 or 30 pistons if i use stock v8 350 piston but healthy pistons is ok or not ? tnx [/QUOTE] Yes, the V6 uses the same piston as the V8. Check piston to valve clearance if you use a hot rod cam. |

This Edelbrock manifold with a small 4bbl, and maybe a cam would make a 4.3 come to life with no EFI or computers required! https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-2111/overview/ |

but v6 have better low end torque and better mileage and better exhaust sound ! making turbo charger headers is hard to me and a big problem of i6 is cooling v6 has better water cooling system and intake, exhaust system .. for turbo i need inter cooler overall turbo for me is not good natural aspirated engine is more lovely and has low maintenance cost off topic subject question but short : stock piston can be use again after rebuilding engine ? this v6 is std but need to shave to about 20 or 30 pistons if i use stock v8 350 piston but healthy pistons is ok or not ? tnx |

techinspector1 | If it's a matter of wanting more power, I would think that adding a turbocharger to the I6 would be a lot easier. And the I6 is already low static compression ratio, so puffing maybe 6 psi into the motor would make far more power than the V6 and the I6 would be detonation-resistant with the low SCR.

The 87 and later 4.3 is either Gen 1 or Gen 2 fuel injection and ignition unless these were different in your part of the world. If they are one of these electronic beasts, what are your plans to either use the electronic platform or convert to a carb and stand alone distributor? At this point I'm thinking engine mounts are not the biggest issue you've got to solve, but not being there I don't know. Bogie |

The trans can stay in the same place----no need for a new crossmember. v-8 mounts will work with a 4.3, but it's better to get 4.3 specific mounts. i believe with impala, the engine mounts bolt directly to the front crossmember? If so, you will need to drill new holes in the crossmember for the 4.3; You have probably realized by now that the 4.3 is about 4.5" inches shorter than a v-8? Sorry, don't have time to really discuss in detail now. May have more time this weekend. |

techinspector1 | What is it that you are trying to accomplish by swapping in a V6 instead of using the I6 ?
