No power to starter

Got the 548 Chevy installed in the 70 vette. Battery installed and all and have the big starter wire hooked to the starter . but there is no power to the big wire. If u put my tester on the battery it lights up. its not hot at the starter though..

The big wire from the battery to the starter should be a single wire going straight there. Could it have been severed during the engine swap?

Trace the length of the wire. Make sure the battery terminals are clean.

Don't forget the ground wire(s) too.

go to jump the starter wires and starter clicks over and just stops
once this happens no longer have power going to the power stud on the starter
then to get power back to the start i unhook the battery cable and hook it back up i have power to the starter again

Still either a ground or a connectivity issue. Resistance goes sky-high as soon as you energize the circuit and kills the connection.

Corvette being fiberglass needs grounds to everything. Battery to motor, battery to frame, frame to body/underdash ground, body/underdash ground to motor(this was typically back of cylinder head to firewall mounted ground junction). Clean connection points on everything including battery and terminals

Also starter nose cone contact to block, paint on block at starter mount can be a problem, so check that.

Electricity needs a full loop everywhere it goes...it not only has to go from battery positive to switch, but battery positive to component, and then back from switch or component to battery ground. When it can't make the complete loop, it won't operate.

main ground cable should go from battery to the motor as the starter is the only thing that uses the 100% battery draw
then ground everything else off the motor
and check what ericnova72 said about paint between the starter and block

If I had this vet i would have the ground cable the same size as the + . I would also have it tied down on the bell housing / flywheel dust cover

What is the condition of the battery is it new, full charge? You will be better off having the motor ground from the battery. I just asked the question about the battery cause the description highlighted that is odd.
Unless the starter sol is hanging, what is the condition of the starter?

The sol is nothing more than a relay. Big current that is required to turn over a motor. Can and will burn the contacts, causing pitting and carbon, that causes resistance, that causes, a voltage and current drop to the starter motor.

Sometimes one hears a click, click, click from the sol, low battery. But if is clicks once then nothing there is a good chance the sol has bad contacts and should be checked or replaced.

Here's hoping the starter is easily accessible ...
Cheers,
pep

couple things, starter is a new mini starter, went to advance a couple weeks back and had them check it to see if it is good and it worked perfect on their tester. the battery is newer and it is fully charged with battery charger

Ok i thought you were talking OME part, they are bulky but work long time.
I'm not a fan of these mini starters, read many post where folks have problems.

I'm stepping out for the reason mentioned above.
