Nor Receiving Email Notifications

I'm not getting email notifications re: posts or personal messages.

Can you tell me the FROM email adress that's used ... AND the contant that appears in the SUBJECT headings?

I want to try and set my email rules so I can start getting them again. I was getting them for the longest time, and then for some reason they stopped! I emailed my ISP -- no help there, so I guess for some reason ... maybe it's being recognized as junk mail (but I've check my junk mail folder a number of times and never saw any there).

What ever the problem is, I want to fix it!!! ARGHH!!!

Thanks for any help.

From: Hotrodders Bulletin Board Mailer <[email protected]>
Subject: Reply to post 'engine firing too early'

The subject will always contain "Reply to post", followed by the title of the thread in single quotes.

I suspect that your ISP is blocking them on their servers, before they get sent to you. Since it's essentially an "automated" email, it might be getting tagged as spam.

It's very upsetting.

I've told my email program to recognize emails according to the subject, etc., noted above ... and it isn't working.

I've talked to my ISP and they say they aren't blocking anything.

So there must be something at Hotrodders that changed -- I *was* getting notices before ... and I get notices from other sites alright.

I just hope Jon gets lucky and stumbles onto something that fixes it -- this is the "most important" site for me to get notifications from!

I was getting them, then about a week ago they stopped completely. Talked to my ISP, they said they are installing a new server, and Hotrodders.com was on a black list. And they would put it on a white list for me. That was two days ago, nothing yet. Will call them again today.

Troy

Argh! Makes sense though. What's your ISP troy? Phone number? I'd like to give them a ring.

I just checked with my web host again and they replied:

"No, we are not blocking mentioned site in any way."

Alan -- ask them if they are using an email filtering system. They may not be specifically blocking Hotrodders.com, but they might be automatically filtering those emails. Otherwise, this one has me buffaloed. I've signed up for email notifications using my test membership on this board, and they come through no problem to me.

If they aren't filtering email in any way, I'll check in with the designers of the board software to see what they can tell me.

I just sent them another message asking if they were FILTERING in any way. I should hear from them quickly and I'll post here as soon as I do.

I have also never received an email notification. I want to check with my ISP regarding any sort of filtering/blacklisting. Is the HR "from" address on an email simply "hotrodders.com"? I just need to let my ISP know exactly what address is not getting through.

Here's their response, Jon:

"No, we do not filter emails on the server where your account is hosted."

I checked my admin panels for email in my hosting package for AlanHorvath.com, too, and there are NO spam filters applied. So, it's confirmed; my host/email has no play in this hand.

It's got to be in the Hotrodder.com board programming somehow.

The from address is [email protected].

I have a test account on the board, I signed up for a bunch of email notifications, and they all came through. That points to the problem being on your end, but your test points to the problem being on this end. I'll ask at the vBulletin webmaster forums, and we'll take it from there.

Alan & Troy -- I've just changed your listed email addresses to [email protected] and [email protected]. I'm going to monitor those email addresses, and see if your thread subscriptions come through to me. That should help pinpoint it better, and we'll take it from there. Just make sure you have a good amount of thread subscriptions, or you can just add a few test ones if you like.

I just test-posted in one of those, and I received the notification email to [email protected]. Now, I'm going to change your email address back to [email protected], and test-post again. Let me know if you receive the notification email.

Nope.

I've tried changing my email address from [email protected] to [email protected] and it made no difference.

I think, somehow, the board coding is saying "anything to alanhorvath.com = don't send" -- or something to that effect???

Hey, Jon!!!

Did you do something???

I JUST got an email notice to one of my subscribed threads!!

Yippeeee!

I added a new rule to my email program, saying that anything from [email protected] should go to my IN box -- maybe THAT did it.

Anyway, I sure am glad to be getting notices again.

PS - I just sent myself a Test PM ... that worked, too!
