Post Ok, question on limited slip...

My 84 Z28 has 3.73s in it, and i was told it is limited slip. i FINALLY got the car on the road for the first time YAY!!!! I stopped and power braked it and gave it gas...let off and did a burn out...it left only 1 tire mark, does this mean its not limited slip? Or will it catch both sometimes and not others? my cousin hhad a 86 Z28 and says his will catch both sometimes but not all the time. I really hope my rear isnt open, i get exhaust on tomorrow or monday BTW, any ideas?

One Rubberman, either your limited slip is limited or you really don't have it. If it is right there should not be any inconsistency. You know it takes a special rear end grease or an addative. If you are not sure it has it, drain it out. Flush it and add the proper grease with addative. Check with your local dealer for specifics if you are not familiar with what I'm talking about.

Is there a way i can pop the back cover off and tell if its limited slip? where do i drain the rear end at, sorry im dumb LOL first time doing this stuff. I dunno if this matters or not but it roasted the drivers side, not the passenger like all other opens ive been in. What typ eof grease do i need to make it catch? sorry for all the questions. AND Both back tires are very bald from previous owner, the backs are taller and wider than the front so they could have rotated them but the both look equally worn.

jack up the rear of the car so both tires are off the ground. Turn one of the tires with the car in gear or park. If you cant turn the tire at all then its a limited slip, if tire turns freely and the opposite tire is spinning the other direction, its open.

I may have misunderstood a previous post but I dunno if your doing it rite or not. The reason you couldn't move them withe the tranny in park is because the wheels shouldn't move while in park. You do it by putting the tranny in nuetral and taking off the the emergency brake and raising the rear...If both wheels spin the same way, it's posi. If the wheels turn opposite dir., its open...Again, sorry if someone already said this and I just misunderstood.

Whoops just looked at your other thread, too bad it turned out to be open...
