Pancake Hood?

I am working on pancaking a 68 GMC hood. Any tips here?

I am not sure anyone younger than 65 or so even has a clue as to what pancaking a hood is all about..

all i can tell you is it is a pia . plan your pie cuts carefully and be ready to do some stretching and shrinking.

I am planning to leave the center ridge intact and take out the rise on the edges to make the hood flat. Just for the rest of the guys the 40's and 50's cars had a bulbous hood and pancakeing or flattening the hood to get a lower profile was a rad custom deal back in the day..

Nope, not on the west coast. A "Pancake" hood would basically be a hood that is welded and smoothed out and a new smaller hole cut making the hood smaller.

you can pie cut it some but the shape of it is not great for it. as it comes down the top part shrinks. sometimes you can slit the edges and get them to line up but your limited on the 68 because of the slope and the cowl .

Looks like cutting out the ridges on the side and putting in a fill piece. Then there is some work at the nose to make that fit. no one said custom work is easy as i guess that is why we do not see much of it anymore..
