That style doesn't have the lock screws. Adding them would be super easy. Drill and tap the desired size right through the hole where the spanner wrench goes. IF you don't wann do that it's not really a big deal as the ACME thread and weight of the spring should keep it from moving around.
As far as the spring question goes, smashing them is the best way. Find you a speed shop or circle track shop or just a friendly racers online that has one. Most do these days. It only takes a couple minutes so bring beer.
