I have a 78 ford truck 9 inch for my 28 A sedan I'm building. I cut 1 side and narrowed it to center the pinion, added aftermarket axles, 31 spline with a 4.5 BP. They have the 2.78 center, drum size is 11x2 1/4. I'm trying to find a drum to fit, does anyone know the measurement on the back spacing outer edge to hub area on a 1/2 ton ford truck drum? I could buy truck drums and drill for 4.5 but the center hole will be bigger. Speedway has this size drum with the right bolt pattern but they said it wouldn't work with the size axle bearing I have. Measurement on BS on it is 3.575. Any ideas?
1980 Ford 6 cylinder F100 had a 4.5" bolt pattern on a 11 inch drum. No guarantees, but it may fit with no modification. It's listed as using the same wheel bearing as a 78. NAPA part number is ND 4401355
Maybe in trucks, but passenger cars used a 4.5 BC with 11" drums for many years. I would say '57 through at least '74 on a lot of models. Maybe look at passenger car drums is a good idea?
This one should work NAPA ND 4401485 for a 72 LTD. All the attributes are the same as the 78 F100 except the center hole diameter and the bolt pattern.
Looks like 3.587 is the height on the LTD drums. that's .090 difference which could be in the rear lip, these drums are finned. Wish I knew how to get a measurement from the center hole to rear of where the shoe rides.
I've looked up about every drum for a ford you can think of. I think I'll just drill a 4.5 pattern in 2 new truck drums. I'll see if I can get some pieces made to go over the center of the axle with a OD of the center hole on the drum.
