Rear window repair.

I have a questions. When fabricating replacement rear window channel pieces.
What gauge sheet metal do u use. Or what is the proper term used when finding piece from a parts place. Year One , Summit, and Jegs, etc. Most of the searches I've found show you fabricating something but haven't found what gauge metal to use.
Thank You and hope to hear from someone soon.

On the majority of pre-metric domestic cars, the metal thickness is 18 gauge on outer panels and much of the inner structure as well. If forming intricate parts, 20 gauge might be easier to bend since its thinner. But cold rolled 18 gauge steel is what I want for just about anything thats an outer skin panel.

Find a local sheet metal supply place in your yellow pages, thats what I would do. You will get a lot of metal though, meaning a big sheet. There is no reason clean steel cut from another car won't work. Just a thought. If you look around a lot you might find something with some of the contours already in it and that could save you some work.

are you working on the 70 chevelle rear window area.. got pictures? of the damage area... you can click the Manage attachments link below and search your computer for images to upload

this page has the proper trunk and rear window steel panel.. actually several options.. but it does not include the curved area that is part of the quarter panels... somebody will know if those sections are available without ordering a full quarter panel.

Whatever I have on hand for most rust work. Unless its something special, then its the proper gauge. window channels are pretty EZ to make with a stretcher / shrinker from HF 200.00
