Get either a 2.0 or 2.2 tip and you will be a lot happier..still may have to reduce a bit even then

Your in luck .. I know the product well. "Its awesome"

Ok, when you open the can its Thick, The factory reccomends a 2.0mm
tip to spray it as is, That would be for a very high build.

I use the primer with a sharpe finex hvlp gun with a 1.8 tip.

I reduce as follows, using medium reducer.

4 Parts primer
1 Part hardner
1.5 parts reducer.

This will make the primer sprayable and give a decent build. It works very
well with my 1.8 running at about 28 psi, full trigger. It should also work
with your 1.4.

If you had not used it before, you will also find that sanding is a dream.
It powders easily. I use 320 grit mirka, I find that dry sanding does not load
up the paper much.

Best Regards.. X

okay...
thanks for the guides....

the can says reduce 4:1 (high build)
doesn't mention hardener....
(the regular build primer indicates hardener however)

the instructions on the website for the product say the same.

should i follow the instructions or is there a secret??

That 5425 Primer needs a Activator.

You mix the 5425 With the Activator "5426"

From the website:
===============================================
MIXING DIRECTIONS:
Hide Build Primer Filler

4 PARTS XTREME #5425 DTM Primer
1 PART XTREME #5426 Activator

Regular Build Primer Filler
4 PARTS XTREME #5425 DTM Primer
1 PART XTREME #5426 Activator
1 PART Urethane Reducer - Natíl Rule
Acetone - California

Primer Sealer
4 PARTS XTREME #5425 DTM Primer
1 PART XTREME #5426 Activator
2 PARTS Urethane Reducer - Natíl Rule
Acetone - California
=============================================

There is no secret, each of the Mix ratios indicate use of a
Activator.

Mix the stuff as I indicated in my previous post and you will be fine.

When you mix it, Mix it real Well, let it sit for 5 minutes then mix it again
before you put it in the gun.

DUH!
yeah, you're right...
i was reading the labels and website late at night and my brain wasnt processing.

the can clearly states 'activator'

guess i was playing with too much clear coat....clear, reducer, hardener...

'activator' didn't compute...

got it now....

it doesnt take 'reducer' and there is no 'hardener'...

should i finish with 320 or 400??

i'm gonna go sand something.....

thanks.

You will need to reduce it.

It does take reducer.

I use 320 to sand, then 400 for baby smooth. For best results sand the
primer the next day. Or if your shop is warm give it time to dry fully.

Enjoy its sweet smell

Thanks ... X

thanks for holding my hand on this one...

okay, so the label indicates 4:1/primer:activator

no indicator for reducer.
what is a good starting point??
is it a 'thin to taste' type of deal??

thanks.

For your gun with that 1.4 tip you will need to reduce "Thin that liquid so it can spray"

The label might say 4:1 but that pertains to spraying the primer un-reduced.

4 PARTS PRIMER
1 PART ACTIVATOR
"NO REDUCER"

The tech sheet reads:

===============================================
MIXING DIRECTIONS:
Hide Build Primer Filler <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

4 PARTS XTREME #5425 DTM Primer
1 PART XTREME #5426 Activator

Regular Build Primer Filler
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
4 PARTS XTREME #5425 DTM Primer
1 PART XTREME #5426 Activator
1 PART Urethane Reducer - Natíl Rule
Acetone - California

Primer Sealer
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
4 PARTS XTREME #5425 DTM Primer
1 PART XTREME #5426 Activator
2 PARTS Urethane Reducer - Natíl Rule
Acetone - California
=============================================

I mix as follows.
4 PARTS XTREME #5425 DTM Primer
1 PART XTREME #5426 Activator
1.5 PART Urethane Reducer

The product is 3 products in 1. It is formulated in such a way so you
can choose which of the 3 builds is right for your application. The variable
is the ammount of reducer you choose to use.

Ya got it ?

Thanks X
