St400

I'm running a ST400 behind a nailhead 401 in 34' ford. There is a 1/4" cup plug with a .040 hole in it that restricts the oil for the pitch control. It gets clogged every once in a while. Has anyone had this problem? Could I enlarge the hole to .060 or .080 without problems? I have made all the usual 400 mods, dual feed to direct clutch's, separator plate holes, etc

the oil feed is metered down so the solenoid on the back of the pump can function for switch pitch. With a large hole feeding.. the circuit can be flooded and the switch pitch may not activate correctly.

I would determine why the hole is becomeing clogged.

If you open the hole up , keep that size increase to less than 33% ....

Thanks Crosley

Thanks for the info Crosley. I'm going to pull the trans out tomorrow. I know solenoid is working and it's getting voltage etc. I bought a rebuilt converter from Florida Torque Converter but have yet to get this thing working correctly. I'm begging to think I may have a bad converter. This the last time i'm going to mess with it. Don't want to do it but if it doesn't work this time I have 700 I put in. Much trouble to do but might be worth it.
