Sticking hvlp gun trigger?

Hi!

I bought myself a new hvlp gun, but the trigger seems to be sticky .
The trigger 'needle' ( dont know how you really call it?) returns quite slowly.

I did think about lubing it, but lube might hurt the paint job and cause problems?
Any advice?

Many thanks

Oh to add: it sticks only on the air part of the trigger pull

That could be an indicator of wear on the air valve's bushing or improper adjustment. When that bushing is worn and the rod can tilt, it can dig into the trigger and be catchy when opening. Try backing off the nut a little. I used to keep a bottle of DeVilbiss Spray Gun Lube handy for this very reason. Used properly it doesn't cause problems.

If it's a new gun, the valve packing might just be a too tight. You should be able to loosen it just a little then a light coat of oil - either a special spray gun or even sewing machine oil just rubbed on the pin should loosen things up. If not, take it back to the seller. If it's a mass produced Far East import like so many of the lower end guns, another one may be just fine. Don't be afraid to disassemble it - there is little to screw up though be careful.

Packing nut is too tight or it's not lubed. No lubey gun, no worky. Lube doesn't interfere with the paint job.
